Monday Moods - Take 2

Let me take another try at my Monday post, the first one went up off schedule.

Fall is upon us, in northern Virginia the trees are nearing the peak of fall colors, the nights are cooler, with still warm sunny afternoons.  It is time to think about the holidays.

Turkey for Thanksgiving in November.  Roast beef for Christmas, and Ham for New Years.  My fruitcake has been ageing in booze for a couple of months.  I have an article coming out in the November in an American Bar Association e-journal titled "Old Family Fruitcake." And I am not talking about great uncle Dutch.

We start holiday shopping early, when we see something we think the other one would like, we buy it and set it aside.  I can't say I am done shopping, but mostly.  What do you get for the man who has everything?

I really need to help with the Christmas decorating this year, I have wimped out of it most years.  Our styles are different, I never aim for perfect, just fun and done.  I get pissy when things are moved around to the proper place after I have done my thing. I need to work on that. I can be sensitive, I am not perfect.  To quote Diana in Waiting for God (a great BBC sitcom) I am not easy to live with, believe me I find myself hard to life with.

My goal for this fall, is to take each day in stride.  Awaken, glad to still be alive, and move forward.

What is the photo above? The Pentagon, from a window seat departing out of DCA on a cool November morning.

  1. Some days aging in booze sounds good. And then I think it through.

    1. It is much better for the fruitcake, than it would be for the fruitcake eater.

  2. Oh TP, while you may have your inner doubts, never admit you are anything less than perfect.

  3. What do you get for the man who has everything? - A novelty key ring from Mount Rushmore, Homer Simpson undershorts, an electric nasal hair trimmer and America's first female president.

  5. I think we're getting a new kitchen for Christmas ... well, after Christmas.
I do our holiday decorating for a couple of reasons: Carlos' eyesight precludes him from certain tasks and, as we both have learned, I am a combination of Joan Crawford, Martha Stewart and Adolph Hitler when it comes to the tree!

  6. I love that shot of the pentagon. My holiday decorations have been toned down by quite a bit over the past 3 years or so. I no longer put up a tree but I do scatter some holiday things around the house during the season.

  7. The holidays will be here too quickly and I should start making lists and shopping NOW. I have a busy Christmas coming up with my son's family of six spending a week in my home (including a 1-year-old!) My decorating will be "kid friendly" this year with breakable things placed high or behind glass. Yikes!

  8. I still put up a lot of decorations because the kids come home for Christmas and they look for decorations that remind them of their childhoods. Now my 2 1/2 year old grandson is figuring out that there's an excitement that comes with this time of year. Little ones do bring that magic of Christmas back so bring on the stockings and decorations!

  9. Shopping's done. Decorations go up this weekend. Jeffrey isn't into it, so he's going away for the weekend and the BFJ will; come help.
