We started our tour of the Cathederal in Milan, up on the roof. We had booked tickets ahead of time, you go to the entrance at the right rear of the church, and the elevator takes you swiftly to the top. The stone work is simply amazing.
Wow...did a quick research on this cathedral. Ground was broken in 1365 and it took nearly 600 years to complete. Buildings that are hundred and hundreds of years old are still standing and going strong. Beautiful photos from a rooftop view!
I never had any desire to see Rome, but Naples and Milan and Florence would definitely be on my list. And I've always thought this Cathedral looks spectacular. Sort of resembles one I saw when I was in Buenos Aires. They just don't have architecture like that anymore.
Amazing what could be done without cranes and machinery and so-called modern technology!
ReplyDeleteCenturies of stone carving
DeleteNot a drop of architectural restraint can be observed.
ReplyDeleteOver the top, and then some.

ReplyDeleteThe interior deserves a separate post
DeleteMust have been scary to work up there.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't do that.
DeleteThat was one of my favorite things to do in Milan. Up there among all those spires and statues is kind of magical.
ReplyDeleteYou would take amazing photos there.
