The pathway to the UP train, the train runs from Union Station to Toronto Pearson airport, hence the name UP. It is comfortable, relatively fast, and at my age $6.60 Canadian each way. A great way to travel.
The fountain in Berczy Park. Just a couple of blocks from the hotel I stayed at.
Above the entrance to the Hockey Hall of Fame on Front Street.
Main hall at Toronto Union Station.
CN Tower. The wait for tickets was long, I didn't go in.
TD plaza. TD Ameritrade and TD Bank have made major inroads the US market, what I didn't know, is TD stands for Toronto Dominion Bank. They have several towering office buildings around this plaza with the neat yellow tables.
The lobby of Fairmont Royal York Hotel, the host hotel for the conference, I stayed a the Omni King Edward Hotel about five blocks away.
Old City Hall.
Lots of people live in the city, and new buildings are sprouting like wildflowers.
About the only city and area, I have yet to visit in Canada.
ReplyDeleteThe ads on the post got me laughing. An ad popped up between every picture, and at first, I thought they were your pictures! I had to reset the screen to get them to disappear. I love the architecture of the city.
The adds are annoying when I post lots of photos.
DeleteBeautiful photos. Exciting shot of the fountain.
ReplyDeleteI had a couple of nice walks
DeleteWhat a great collection of photos. Toronto looks like a really interesting city, and it's nice to see all the different sides of it, from the modern buildings to the older architecture like the City Hall and the Fairmont. It's too bad about the CN Tower, but sometimes the best part of a trip is just walking around and soaking in the atmosphere, which it looks like you did plenty of. The dog fountain in Berczy Park is so unique and fun I've never seen anything like it.
ReplyDeleteI just posted something new, and I'd love to hear what you think.
I think you are AI, trying to build traffic to your page.
DeleteI follow a couple of Toronto bloggers, and so I get to see quite a bit of the city and we visited for a few days in 2015. The airport train was very new then. We struggled to find somewhere to buy Presto cards and the train took a five minute break for a restart to get the failed air con working. We stayed at the Royal Fairmont and while the public areas are stunning, the rooms are ho hum, in spite of being 'upgraded'.
ReplyDeleteThe city seems to have some respect for the very good older buildings, but I am not so sure about streetscapes.
The ticket vending machines were easier to find this time, near the entrance to the station, at at our age, it is half price on just a one way ticket. I stayed at the Omni King Edward a few blocks away, it was nice.
DeleteYour photos brought back a lot of memories of visiting Toronto. The UP Train is a new addition since the last time I was there.
ReplyDeleteUP runs from Terminal 1 at the airport, you take the terminal connector shuttle, from Terminal 3 to and from it. All of the international and most of the long haul flights are from terminal 3.
DeleteNaturally, you had me at the architecture; love the mix of the old and the new.
ReplyDeleteAnd, though I don't know why they did it, I love the cavernous spaces of older train stations.
It is a great train station, very grand.
DeleteSo many train stations bear the Union Station name. Dayton used to have a Union Station. It was small, very pretty but has been torn down. Train travel is easy and fun, too. Beautiful photos of Toronto. Lots of blending of old and new buildings.
ReplyDeleteUnion Stations I believe were so named because more than one railroad operated from them when they were built. In most of the USA there is only one passenger railroad, but Washington Union Station, has trains from Amtrak, Virginia Railway Express (VRE), and MARC the Maryland Transit Administration. MARC and VRE provide local passenger rail service with a focus on commuter service.
DeleteNice photos.
ReplyDeleteI've discovered that once I scroll down and click on the comment link, I can then scroll back up and see all of your post without any ads and that makes it easier to view.
Good tip.
DeleteBeautiful series of photos. That fountain ⛲️ is so captivating and soothing.
ReplyDeleteI was surprised by the ceramic dogs in the fountain, I didn't notice the cat.
DeleteToronto is one of the great cities of the world.
ReplyDeleteI have been three or four times, and I would go back anytime.
DeleteTornado is city I like to visit.
ReplyDeleteI miss my yearly jaunts to Yonge Street.
