The Sunday Five: Early or Late

1: Are you an early bird, or the second mouse?

2: Which is more annoying to you the person who is always early, or the person who is always last to arrive?

3:  When was a time when you were memorably late?

4: How long before departure time do you leave for the airport?

5: How long do you wait for someone who is running late?

My Answers:

1: Are you an early bird, or the second mouse?  I am almost always early.

2: Which is more annoying to you the person who is always early, or the person who is always last to arrive?  I enjoy talking with other early birds, I try not to judge those who are not early.

3:  When was a time when you were memorably late? My parents funeral, I missed a turn and was 20 minutes late, by brother-in-law was 30 minutes late and he lived 3 miles away.

4: How long before departure time do you leave for the airport? I can be at my home airport in 30 minutes, so between 2 and 2.25 hours.

5: How long do you wait for someone who is running late? Meeting start within five minutes, beyond that 10 to 20 minutes.

Please share your answers in the comments.

    2. Quite often, it’s 4 hours. And I enjoy airports, too. Once I’m passed security hell, I have a great time.

  2. 1. Early. Some would say too early.
    2. My pet peeve is me being late. HATE it. But I refuse to show up to a party early. A meeting, I don't care if I'm early. Was taught if you show up on time, you're late.
    3. Snow storm. Got to a very intimate concert 2-3 songs in. It was noticeable when we arrived.
    4. About 2 hours. International might be longer.
    5. 20. Tops. Unless they've updated me.

  3. 1. Yes, early bird.
    2. I am always ready on time. Five minutes before, I may not be. Don't come early. I am never late, although in some instances I am deliberately late, so why should anyone else be late.
    3. I was late for my brother's wedding, which was the fault of my mother.
    4. For international, two hours. Domestic, half an hour.
    5. 15 minutes without an explanatory, sorry and why I am late message.

  4. 1: Are you an early bird, or the second mouse?
Definitely early - I'd rather be half an hour early than 2 minutes late. Often I arrived in time to help people "put the chairs out," both figuratively and literally. Drives my husband mad.

2: Which is more annoying to you, the person who is always early, or the person who is always last to arrive?
Definitely the latecomers are more annoying - the rest of us worked hard to get here on time. You slackers are just too lazy to get going in time. But like you, I try not to judge. But it is funny - it is always the same people who are always late.

3: When was a time when you were memorably late? Plane got cancelled, and the airline didn't reschedule for us to fly until 3 days later! We just enjoyed the extra time (in Prague of all places).

4: How long before departure time do you leave for the airport? We (hubby and I) try to be at an international airport 3 hours beforehand, because, you know, passport and security checks and long lines of people. Usually we sit in the departure lounge inside the security zone for the next 2 3/4 hours. LOL Domestic, about an hour and a half beforehand, and even then we end up sitting way too long at the departure gate waiting. Paranoid about missing a plane.

5: How long do you wait for someone who is running late? Depends on the appointment and how much I have invested in the appointment. I have waited for someone for up to an hour, but I had other things to fill in the time. For a date (long before I met the man who is now my husband), I have waited for longer than an hour. (We'll do anything for you know what...) Meeting? Like you, 5 minutes, especially if all the other people (enough for a quorum) are already present. No sense in wasting everyone's precious time.

  5. 1: Are you an early bird, or the second mouse? Always early; my father raised us that eary was on time, on time was late, and late was unforgivable.
2: Which is more annoying to you the person who is always early, or the person who is always last to arrive? Always the late ones.
3: When was a time when you were memorably late? July 21st 2000; when I was late to the Ft, Lauderdale Airport after meeting Carlos in person and spending ten days together. He drove like mad to get to the airport and then dropped me off and parked the car. He then came running up to my gate to see me off. They were just about to close the doors when we said our goodbyes.
4: How long before departure time do you leave for the airport? I am always a minimum of ninety minute early and maybe more at a busier airport.
5: How long do you wait for someone who is running late? Until they arrive and then I let them have it. I don't recall ever leaving before the late person arrived.

  7. 1: Are you an early bird, or the second mouse? I'm the early bird, my husband is the late mouse and we have "discussions" about our styles.
2: Which is more annoying to you the person who is always early, or the person who is always last to arrive? The late to arrive person.
3: When was a time when you were memorably late? We were late to Todd's retirement party. He didn't take into account the heavy evening traffic around Columbus.
4: How long before departure time do you leave for the airport? 2 hours. I don't mind waiting in the airport.
5: How long do you wait for someone who is running late? 15-20 minutes if they don't call to let me know they're running late.

  8. I thought I would pop over from our mutual friends at the Casa du Borghese.

I am always early or at least right on the dot. Except for that of swanky parties. On the social scene it's always better to show up fashionably late. For two reasons, to show off your fabulous ensemble and two, to make an entrance. If one is early you won't make your presence known.

  9. 1: Are you an early bird, or the second mouse? Both depending upon the situation. Despite any planning, traffic happens. I learned that whoever has the least distance to the meeting is often the late one. If you are coming from a distance one tends to plan better and allow for contingencies.
2: Which is more annoying to you the person who is always early, or the person who is always last to arrive? I don't let it annoy me unless they are the person who called the meeting.
3: When was a time when you were memorably late? Can't remember a specific instance, although I do recall once commuting from my parents' house to my job and it taking 2.5 hours instead of the 1.5 hours I had allowed.
4: How long before departure time do you leave for the airport? Add 1.5 hours onto an ETA 2.5 hours before the scheduled flight time. The frequency of the city bus system to the airport is 30 minutes, so I allow for missing one bus.
5: How long do you wait for someone who is running late? Depends - if they called the meeting I'll wait up to 15 minutes. If I called the meeting, 5 minutes if key people are there. In either case, I'll start checking up on them at the arranged meeting time.

  10. 1. I'm the early bird but my wife says it is much better to be "fashionably late".
    2. I think the early bird because by the time the late person arrives I've been into the sauce with the other person.
    3. Ohhh, late to get the 10 o'clock news prepared. Fortunately I had an exemplary assistant who had it well in hand.
    4. Haven't flown for so many decades so I can't remember.
    5. Hmmm, this one evades me also.
P.S. I might add that I'm a very senior citizen and have been retired for almost 20 years so most of this doesn't apply to me.
