The Art Museum in Cleveland Ohio |
I have long ago lost track of the number of times I have visited Ohio. Located south of Michigan, north of Kentucky, west of Pennsylvania, east of Indiana Ohio is very much in the center of the Midwest, and the gateway to the eastern United States. The state has three major cities, the three Cs, Cleveland in the north on Lake Erie, Columbus kind of in the middle, and Cincinnati in the south on the Ohio River. In between there is miles, and miles, and miles of gently rolling farmland, old industrial towns, and in the south east, petroleum production.
There are great art museums in Cleveland and Cincinnati. A major military aircraft museum in Dayton (on last September's road trip and breakfast with Diaday.)
The Sweet Bear is from Cleveland, we have made many trips there to visit family. Cincinnati was a great city escape when we lived in Lexington Kentucky, less than a 100 miles away. Cincinnati has many more big city amenities like museums and shopping than Lexington, it made a great weekend getaway or day trip.
Ohio is probably underrated as a tourist destination, there are many things to see and do. The winters are a bit much for me - the West Side Market in Cleveland is one of the best in the country.
There are major airports in Cleveland and Columbus. If you fly into Cincinnati, you are actually flying into Kentucky - just across the river.
A duh moment for me, as I realise Cleveland is not in Michigan.
ReplyDeleteThat is okay, the BBC this week said "the US state of Minneapolis" in an article, Minneapolis is a city the state of Minnesota. BBS should have better editors.
DeleteWe had a friend who worked at Case-Western and we went to visit her regularly from Connecticut. I always enjoyed my time in Cleveland and driving around the area.
ReplyDeleteThere are some neat things in Cleveland, the winters are rather fierce, and the lake is to cold to really swim in.
DeleteWe went twice in winter! Yikes. And we drove there!
DeleteI have an old college friend who lives in Cincinnati and we've visited there a few times ... never in winter ... and always loved the city.
ReplyDeleteGreat town to relax in. Cincinnati prosecuted a "little old lady" for interference with a law enforcement officer, her crime was going down the street ahead of a parking enforcement officer, putting quarters in expired parking meters. That kind of says all that needs to be said about the politics of the Queen City.
DeleteI've been looking forward to your thoughts on Ohio. Like the sign says when you come into the state, "Ohio, the Heart of It All." Thanks for your perspective. And yes, our winters do have their moments.
ReplyDeleteCleveland gets lake effects snow, there are great stay at home days in that part of the state.
DeleteI've visited Ohio many times. My DiL lived there for awhile when she was doing her internship and I remember driving across the state to the Youngstown area to visit my grandson.
ReplyDeleteAt one time there was a huge GM assembly plant in Youngstown.
