This would be an interesting week to be in Rome, the Conclave begins tomorrow. Scotland is treating us well. Good food, I had Haggis and a Fish Pie, two things I had not tried and wanted to. Edinburgh is built on steep hills, lots and lots of steep hills. I ask for directions and people say "it is only three minutes walk" then I turn the corner and face Mt. Denali. I remember in Rome, ordering local food, drinking my one and only Grappa, and my first of many Limoncellos. Always try the local foods.
I'm glad you're enjoying Scotland and as I said it's on my bucket list, but not so much the Haggis and a Fish Pie. So I may likely starve in Scotland.
ReplyDeleteI am sure you would find something to munch on ;) . There is the Hendricks distillery team.
DeleteOh Grappa; I had a sip once and never went back.
ReplyDeleteLimoncello on the other hand ....
Try anything once, with caution
DeleteHomoerotic centurians and goofy looking Swiss guards! Rome is a hot gay mess.
ReplyDeleteYes, I knew a priest who was playing house with a member of the Swiss Guard.
DeleteA rather amazing collection of photos. As a teen, I sampled grappa. Never again.
ReplyDeleteGrappa had a once in a lifetime effect on my digestion.
DeleteI love the photos from Rome. They bring back memories.
ReplyDeleteHaggis, really? You are a brave eater.
Haggis, it is ground meats, cooked with oats, kind of like a savory sloppy joe. I wouldn't bother making it, but it was not foul.
DeleteI visited Rome in 2019. It was the last stop on our tour (Venice, Florence, then Rome). We enjoyed Venice the most, although of course the others were interesting, too.
ReplyDeleteIt would be hard to play favorites between the three.
DeleteFish pie, yes. Haggis, no. You don’t have to try EVERY local food. In Norway, trust people when they tell you how awful lutefisk can be.
ReplyDeleteI have been warned about lutefisk, and the fermented shark in Iceland.
DeleteAh, limoncello...we went to a restaurant in Trastevere and the service was so-so. The maitre d' was not happy with our server and we received a few complimentary glasses of limoncello. It packs a punch! :)
ReplyDeleteIt is so sweet and innocent, and about 80 proof.
DeleteNever heard of Grappa. I did mange to let Chatgpt analysis what in my bookshelf.
ReplyDeleteGrappa is a distilled spirit, made from what is left over from wine making, it is Italian fire water.
DeleteI haven't been in Edinburgh for years but, according to your pictures, it is looking a lot like Rome nowadays.
