A stack of journals, I had an article published in that issue. A calculator - yes I still use one. A mug of pens and markers, one with plastic forks and spoons - I usually eat lunch at my desk while working, the dreaded phone with a headset - 20 years of using a phone headset I don't feel comfortable without it. Lady Justice has a clock in the base, I found that in a catalog about the time I was setting my first post law school office. Beyond that, you can see the edge of a micrometer. A precision measuring device, both of our fathers used them in their work, that one was from Jay's father's tool box. Beyond that you can just see the ends of the jaws of an alligator head. A real one - a reminder of 20 years living in the swamps of Florida. The Yellow sign says "Gone For The Day"it is always on my desk. I see the corners of a couple of awards bestowed on me over the years, and hanging on the lamp a greek evil eye catcher. Many of these things tell a story, mostly I am the only one who knows the story.
What's in your work space?
Since I'm retired, my "work space" is just my computer desk. Random items on it include 3 beckoning cat figurines, a small bowl of spiritual stones, a Hawaiian hula girl doll, paper clips, tape dispenser, Thor and Loki POP figurines and my cat HRH's ashes in a commemorative box.
ReplyDeleteMay the cats always being watching over you.
DeleteSo many random things surround me at my desk, since it’s at home and I don’t have a job. But the most meaningful are a small photo of my sister and a cutesy statuette of a flower child that she gave me when I went away to university. On the base is inscribed: In those quiet moments when you’re alone with yourself, think of me now and then.
ReplyDeleteAnd you do.
DeleteI am curious about the painting. my work desk is clean and organized; I will have to take a few pix and post them.
ReplyDeleteLook forward to the pics. Like or hate this painting? All of the offices are inside, and without windows I thought I needed pops of color.
DeleteLIKE! did you paint it?
DeleteWow! You can see your desk! Right now my computer desk has on it: cordless phone and charger, glucose monitor, insulin pen, pen needles, Sharps container, measuring tape, various randomly tossed earrings, compression gloves, wallet, various bill stubs, bank statements, lamp, teddy bear, stamps, kindle charger, Amelia Earhart and Judge Crater. I think there's a desk there too.
ReplyDeleteI cleaned the desk off just before the holidays.
DeleteMy desk is in a back room with a defunct computer. My "real" desk is our dining room table which is in a "hearth" room, an extension to the kitchen. I have my laptop on a TV tray next to the table because the height is better for my hands and wrists. The table is almost invisible under a wealth of stuff--cups with numerous pens, letter openers, small scissors; a landline extension; calcular; bills to pay or opened mail to save for later; piles of magazines; my Turbotax purchase for this tax season; lots of bottles of our medicines; lotions and creams of various sorts; a small purple teddy bear from my adult niece; a small basket with gum, paper clips, small post-its; several glass paperweights and a very heavy brass Scrooge figurine I bought in London at Dickens's home; a much, much more. I spend a great deal of my day sitting in my padded, roller chair here at this "desk."
ReplyDeleteI sense a kindred spirit!
DeleteMy home desk is an archeology project.
DeleteWell... from looking at your desk, I just realized where all my pens migrated to! :)
ReplyDeleteAnd I can never find the one I want
