Music

I remember the first music classes in elementary school, probably 4th or 5th grade.  The teacher opened up the case of an upright piano and plucked the strings, to show what a Harpsichord might sound like, she played records of instruments country kids were unlikely to ever see or hear.  I was captivated by the sound of the Harpsichord.  Over the years I have seen a handful of them, heard one played a couple of times for just a minute or two.  

 Mt. Vernon has purchased a recreation of the one that George Washington bought for his family.  It is on a concert tour here in the DC area.  We recently had tickets for 90 minutes of amazing music.  

 Have you heard one played live?

    no, never, but would like to. looks like a piano, but sounds nothing like it. bach has some lovely harpsichord pieces that my classical radio station plays.

    Oh yes, I've seen and heard a harpsichord played live many times. A beautiful instrument! One of my favourite memories is an intimate gathering many years ago of music lovers in a gay bar for a solo "community concert" by a gay harpsichordist who led the local baroque orchestra.

    If the harpsichord is that instrument that sounds kind of ting, ting tingy in old period piece movies, while people are dancing the minuet or some such, then no I've never experienced one live. I don't think I'd care to, either. Give me a piano any day! Hell, give me a harp, even. I have absolutely no class whatsoever, but I know what I like.

    I don't think I've heard one live but I'm not sure, I used to go to a lot of music festivals in my twenties so it's possible that I forgot.

      I'm happy to say that it was mid 90s that I was in my twenties, please don't rush my aging process!!! Hahaha!

    Long ago when a grad school prof invited the class over to her house, and there was a harpsichord. It was her husband's who taught at the same university. I vaguely remember someone playing it (perhaps the husband). I'd completely forgotten this until your post today. Thanks for the memory trigger.
