I started blogging as a holiday replacement for a friend who lives in London, before mobile blogging became a thing, Stephen doesn't really blog anymore, he pod-casts, and I don't know if he counts as traveling to meet a blogger, we traveled to visit with Duncan and Stephen, before we knew what blogging was.
We have met some dear friends through blogging, Woodchuck, Squirrel, Kell, Spo and Someone, and John Gray in Wales. I had a delightful breakfast with Fearsome Beard and his hubby here in DC one morning. There are a few we have met who are gone, Anne Marie and RTJ, the dude in Richmond who died. There are more we would love to meet. Including plans to see Desert Botanical Gardens with Sharon as my tour guide in January.
We have met Mitchell three times, once here in DC, once in New York when he was here to spend time with his brother Chuck, and now in Spain, and we met San Geraldo. SG does not blog, but is frequently featured on blogs.
I remember the first time we were going to meet a blogger for dinner, my co-workers called to check on me - making sure we had not met a serial killer. Nope, Woodchuck is not a serial killer, he may have burned out a few clutches over the years, but not people.
As you all know, I love to travel, and I love my blogger buddies. Being able to combine the two is pure bliss. You meet the nicest people when blogging (yes there are a couple of exceptions.)
So what did we think of Mitchell and SG? We had met Mitchell before he is everything you would expect from reading his blog and more. He is honest, and caring, and much more functional than he often describes himself as being. He is fun, with a deep sense of humor and bright with a broad range of knowledge. He can carry an intelligent conversation for hours, and will given the opportunity to do so. Gerry is a retired academic and researcher. Imagine a person who would spend 18 hours a day researching family history and you have Gerry in a nutshell. He is a large man, tall, and robust. The thing that most surprised me was a deep sense of humor. He will make you laugh, and enjoys a good laugh. They live a couple of short blocks from a local train station, in an apartment with a billion dollar view of the Mediterranean. The space fits them, not to large, but sufficient space for their life, and the two cats. It is a peaceful place to enjoy the adventure.
It was fun, we are glad we did it. We would do it again. There are more bloggers I hope to meet in time. If you are in the DC area and want to meet a blogger, drop me a message and we can make arrangements. I love meeting for breakfast or lunch.
With one exception when I should have trusted my instinct, my meets with people have been very successful. Some have become personal friends.
