I admit I have wanderlust, I love to travel, to get out, to get away, to see different things, to hear new sounds, to smell the place, to feel the vibrations of a different place. When I am home, I am home, I commute to the office, run a few errands - most often - like most of us - going to the same places. With work from home now being 60% of my professional life, I am home more than ever. I am in my bedroom more than ever, my home work space is there. All of this makes getting away all the more valuable.
What have I learned by traveling:
- All cities have traffic congestion, patience is the best answer
- Use public transit whenever you can. It is the easiest and most economical way to get around most cities.
- Every public transit system has challenges, the systems break, need repair, replacement, and you work around it.
- The locals live, sleep, eat, shop a couple of blocks off the beaten path - you should also.
- Most of the locals have a love-hate relationship with the place they live.
- Most people are proud of where they live.
- Avoid the crowds of tourists if you can.
- Disney is a fake world, see the real world if you can
- Friendly dogs, are friendly in every place, and every language
- Time spent waiting for a plane, or train, is time to absorb the essence of the place.
- Each place has a unique feel, smell and sound.
Enjoy and get away when you can.
I couldn't agree more with your list!!!
ReplyDeleteTraffic was fun today
DeleteI really like your list and it is all quite true. But do foreign dogs understand English? I recall Japanese cats have quite good English skills.
ReplyDeleteA good question, do dogs have a human language
DeleteGood list. I had a colleague in San Diego who went to Epcot Center every year and said she therefore didn’t need to travel anywhere else. She was experiencing the entire world. Hmmm.
ReplyDeleteI have met people like that
DeleteMarvelous list! We took our kids to Disney once when we visited friends in Orlando. One and done. All the other times they've gone is through the generosity of friends.
ReplyDeleteI lived in Orlando for 15 years,
DeleteThat list is a must have!
ReplyDeleteI remember the smell of Savannah, Phoenix
DeleteThat's perfect list! I'm itching to travel again.
ReplyDeleteI understand that itch
Delete"Disney is a fake world, see the real world if you can" -- AGREED!
ReplyDeleteAlas, while I'm veritable walking buffet to mosquitos, the travel bug has never bitten me. Hermit to the core.
ReplyDeleteHawaii!
DeleteErupting volcanos! I will miss my cruises though. Never shall I go out to sea again.
DeleteWise words david…very wise
ReplyDeleteI think if I was healthier and wealthier (or there were teleportation tubes) I'd probably travel more. I like BEING IN and exploring new places...I just don't always enjoy the effort of getting there and back or the road bumps that can occur. That may change once we retire. You certainly make it seem very appealing. I'm happy you get to have the adventures you do.

If we had means I would travel more. But I'm intrigue by arts and culture.
ReplyDeleteCoffee is on and stay safe
You are a sage traveler. I believe all your advice.
