The Saturday Morning Post: 50 states in 52 weeks: Arizona

My love of Arizona started when I was about 4 or 5 years old. A friend of my father's had moved there, and we went out for a week one winter. The following winter we went back for 5 months, I went to the first grade in Phoenix that winter.  Those adventures left deep and pleasant memories for me.  I find the landscape very relaxing.

The next time I went to Arizona was in the mid 1980's for a training program in Scottsdale.  I rented a car, I visited the school I had attended about 20 years before, and went to the Grand Canyon.

I have been back numerous times over the past 15 years, for conferences, or merely stopping on my way to and from the west coast to see Spo and on the most recent trip to meet Sharon of Phoenix Daily Photo.  There is a conference in Phoenix I will be there in a couple of weeks.

I don't think I would survive a summer in Phoenix, but I do like the state. I can't wait to go back.

  1. I love the desert and enjoyed my visits to Phoenix, but it sure has changed over the years.

  3. I think in Summers it's an indoor state! Florida could be like that.
I prefer New Mexico over AZ, and in the mountains near Santa Fe and Taos; you get some wintry stuff and some heat in Summer but it's not so bad.

  6. I was in Tucson for part of my honeymoon but those aren't happy memories so I don't feel the need to visit Arizona ever again. I've heard it is very nice, tho, and hope you enjoy your trip.

  7. Never been. I aways look so desolate to me. But I love the heat. And Palm Springs....maybe. But you can keep Las Vegas.

  9. We moved back to Phoenix in March of 2013, couldn't take the heat, moved back up to where it snows in January of the next year. Are we nuts?

  10. My family moved to Phoenix from Upstate New York when I was 1 Year old, and moved back to the Northeast when I was 9. My father took some classes in Scottsdale, and we visited the Grand Canyon twice, and I seem to recall visiting "South Mountain" at some point. My oldest brother now lives in Chandler (He hates the cold and snow and moved back to AZ after he graduated from College) and we went to visit him a and took a drive through the old neighborhood. We did not feel safe getting out of the car. I don't see us returning any time soon. (Although I did get to see Spo for a quick visit.)
