My father loved chocolate chip cookies. He would tolerate oatmeal raisin, but his passion was chocolate chip. So they were one of the few things my mother would bake, using the recipe on the bag of chips. Jay's mother made them, a slightly different recipe and hers were small. You knew Lil was there, when you saw a tupperware box of chocolate chip cookies about as big around as a silver dollar. I don't make them often, I can't remember the last time, we try to be careful in what we eat, and the temptation of homemade cookies can be hard to resist.
Do you bake? What reminds you of your childhood?
I just baked and sent Deedles a batch of Mexican chocolate spice cookies.
ReplyDeleteI don't know any sweets remind me of childhood. Although, my grandmother often had divinity candy, so when I have some, I think of her.
I haven't made that in decades, I saved my mothers Better Homes and Garden's cookbook, it is in there
DeleteMy mother baked all the time when I was young, but never chocolate chip cookies. Mandel brodt was always on hand. My grandmother baked every week. Our favorite were what we called Grandma's Cookies -- big, heavy, cookie-cutter cookies, sprinkled with sugar but not very sweet. All her daughters had the recipe and they never tasted the same. My mother didn't bother. I can't for the life of me remember the other bite-sized things my mother baked. I can remember the sponge cake and apple cake. So good.
ReplyDeleteI baked a cake last weekend, something my mother seldom did.
DeleteIt was a lovely pineapple upside-down cake, with fresh pineapple. Yummy!
DeleteDAMN! I LOVE pineapple upside down cake!
Deletemy mother baked cakes for birthdays & holidays. I also remember her fried donuts and her pressed cookies for xmess.
ReplyDeleteI like to bake too; I do mostly homemade bread now.
I should do bread again
DeleteCarlos is the MasterBaker™ at our house, though I make a mean Oatmeal Cranberry cookie.
ReplyDeleteI was never much for Chocolate Chip because I am THAT heathen that doesn't care for chocolate.
The better half prefers oatmeal raisin - more chocolate for the rest of us.
DeleteYes, I bake cookies often. My favorites are the mint chocolate chip cookies.
ReplyDeleteSounds tasty
DeleteMy mother made lots of ginger cookies and sugar cookies when I was a kid. Chocolate chip cookies, not so much, because chocolate chips were an expensive ingredient. My specialty now are oatmeal raisin cookies. My Rare One loves them!
ReplyDeleteMy rare one loves oatmeal raisin cookies
DeleteGingerbread cookies of course!
ReplyDeleteI've posted about them a few times.
