The artist on last week's Music Monday was apparently politically incorrect, Romanovsky and Phillips I think had an album by that name. When I need a little reaffirmation, I cue up their old CDs and remind myself, it is all okay.

My Music Monday - Straightening Up The House
I wonder if Oscar Wilde struggled with what mom and dad would think? I didn't come-out until my early 30's. I never had the official coming out conversation with my parents, I figured after I brought J home for easter a couple of years in a row, they would figure it out, and they did - the words of Mrs. Slocombe "eventually."

"Children begin by loving their parents; after a time they judge them; rarely, if ever,do they forgive them." Oscar Wilde
ReplyDeleteI've not read his stuff.
DeleteI used to really enjoy Romanovsky and Phillips. Saw them perform at a small club in Palm Springs in the '90s. "Be political, not polite." An inspiration.
ReplyDeleteJ heard then in Minneapolis in the late 80's.
DeleteI listened to these guys all through college as I was coming out, and still listen to them today, despite some of their dated material. They were great with lyrics. Favorites are this one (“Straightening up the house” still tear up with the lyric “the one that says I Love You John With All My Heart And Soul”) “Give me a homosexual” “Only an Asshole would care” and “We’re not gonna stop (loving each other.)”
ReplyDeleteThere is a surprising amount of their music on YouTube.
DeleteYeah, they had several albums back in the day. I enjoyed their music too and saw them in performance once.
ReplyDeleteJay shared their stuff with me about the time they quit performing together, one of them did a couple of solo albums. The last I read they were living in New Mexico and one of them was a computer programer.
DeleteHuh?
ReplyDeleteThe things we do for love.
Delete"Like walking in the rain and the snow when there's no place to go..."

I never would have known what that line was, without your prompt and google.
DeleteI had never heard of Romanovsky and Phillips but I love that song. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThey never went mainstream, they wrote some good music.
DeleteI had forgotten Straightening up the House. It is funny and has some resonation with me.
ReplyDeleteWe didn’t do to much
DeleteI use to have all their albums; I still know the lyrics to most of their songs.
ReplyDeleteYou are of the age to know them well.
