More Funk in Dublin
Dublin is a young, modern hip place, set in an old city. The blending of new ideas in old places creates a very comfortable place. When cities focus to much on being old, the atmosphere can become museum like creating a fear of touching the artifact that is in fact a city. Some locations focus on being so avantgarde that they become unwelcoming, especially for those of us with more yesterdays than tomorrows. As the sign says, there is danger in too much focus, balance is more welcoming.

Welcoming. New Hope is old and quaint feeling...but with the time and very opened minded and free.

DeleteWe liked Dublin. It has modern manners, vibrant and has lots of young people in an historical setting, not unlike like my own city, though it is not nearly so old.

DeleteWelcoming. But not cool like Dublin. If I claim Málaga as my city, it gets more cool and still, I think, welcoming.

DeleteVery good post, so true about balance. Unfortunately Ottawa can become so obsessed with rules and regulations, that they suck the life out of all enjoyment.

DeleteMy hometown used to be bustling with two General Motors plants and three huge high schools. There were 600+ in my senior class. Now all of that is gone--no GM, only one high school, population is about half of what it was in 1968.

ReplyDeleteHeck no my town is not welcoming. It consists primarily of oldsters conservative in their ways and Hispanics. The former sees the latter in quite a hostile manner.
