Sunday Five - Hotel Choices

The first night in New York the hotel was selected by the program organizers, the Hotel Hayden, nice - nicely updated and we were upgraded at no charge to a nice suite.  The second night was my option, I decided I wanted to be in the middle of it all.  Hence a Hilton Garden Inn 1/2 a block off of Times Square. The room was very nice, smaller, with a bit of a view.  Hence this weeks Sunday Five, Hotel Choices.

1: Do you have a favored hotel brand?
2: Given a choice off off the beaten path or the crossroads of the world, which do you choose?
3: Have you ever redeemed frequent hotel guest points?
4: Two queen beds, or one king size bed?
5: Higher floor, or lower floor?

My answers:
1: Do you have a favored hotel brand?  Hilton and their various brands.
2: Given a choice off off the beaten path or the crossroads of the world, which do you choose? Crossroads, it is fun to be walking distance to the action.
3: Have you ever redeemed frequent hotel guest points? I have with Hilton and IHG (Holiday Inn.)
4: Two queen beds, or one king size bed? Either, but often King.
5: Higher floor, or lower floor? Higher floor.

  1. 1. I prefer Holiday Inn or Best Western.
    2. I want to be close to what I'm doing in the city.
    3. I think those loyalty programs are a rip-off so no, I don't even use them.
    4. Either's fine with me.
    5. Wherever they put me is fine, so long as it's not near the elevators or vending machines.

  2. 1: Do you have a favored hotel brand? I am mostly into boutique hotels. In New York though it's almost always the Whitby Hotel or the Sofitel. I actually have a post coming about it. In Philly I like the Hotel Palomar or The Monaco Hotel in Philly...both Kimpton hotels I believe. Hiltons I'll do. Chains ran risk of too many kids and loud teens.

2: Given a choice off off the beaten path or the crossroads of the world, which do you choose? I like both...depending what Im doing or where Im going.

3: Have you ever redeemed frequent hotel guest points? Yes in the past when I did more chains.
4: Two queen beds, or one king size bed? One King size.
5: Higher floor, or lower floor? Higher is nice, but as long as the room is quite, it doesn't matter.

  5. 1. No,it just has to be three or more stars rated. No mildewy bathrooms.

    2. Whatever's cheapest within my star rating. No creepy Bates stuff!

    3. Nope.

    4. Two queens with visiting options. He snores, my foot shakes. We both survive this way.

    5. Higher. There's a nice sway when an earthquake happens at a distance.

  6. 1: Do you have a favored hotel brand? Not really--anything that has a good rating on TripAdvisor and has handicap accessible bathrooms.
2: Given a choice off off the beaten path or the crossroads of the world, which do you choose? I like to be in the middle of everything, if possible.
3: Have you ever redeemed frequent hotel guest points? Yes, we once redeemed all of our banked Marriott points for two roundtrip airfares to London, 10 nights at a Marriott right off Oxford Street, and several dinner vouchers. We sold the time share condo after that.
4: Two queen beds, or one king size bed? Two queen beds.
5: Higher floor, or lower floor? Doesn't matter as long as there is an elevator and it is quiet.
