I miss Johnny Carson, and Jay Leno on late night television. I am seldom awake at that time of night, but frankly the current late night hosts just don't do it for me. Like my father, I never warmed Connan, never got the jokes. Colbert strays into political commentary, I can get that on CNN (Fox if I want to loose my appetite.) Carson and Leno were funny without being mean. The absurdity of life was enough for them to work with.
Will we ever hear the likes of Johnny again?
I love Colbert, but that's a completely different kind of late night show. I, too, have never really gotten into Conan O'Brien. I don't find him to be an engaging interviewer and I think he used the phrase "That's so gay" one too many times for me (well, ONCE, would be one too many times).
ReplyDeleteI am in bed by 9p and I never watch tv. I have read that carson could be vicious off-screen.
ReplyDeleteI agree. When Johnny retired....that was the end of Late Night tv. Its suppose to be entertainment...not more new and political crap...even though they are jokes. It's getting rare to find a forum where one doesn't hear about world affairs and politico talk. Its burn out I say.
ReplyDeleteBack when I was both a morning chicken and a night owl, I stopped watching Johnny Carson when the format went from ninety minutes to an hour and he didn't have enough time for all of his guests. Never cared for Leno. I personally miss Mike Douglas and Merv Griffin. Daytime sure, but they were purely entertaining.
