I don't know where the museum is, perhaps your own city. I expect a visit would be a very moving experience. I did notice that in England, skin colour seemed to be cared about less. R's sister neighbour is black, and we only found out after seeing her. R's sister only told us her neighbour was a nurse. It seems in England it is more about being English rather than skin colour. But of course racism is still strong in England, especially against Kosovans and other similar countries, let alone refugees who take from the system, abuse it and give nothing back. That was from a taxi driver, who said it in less polite language. I am writing rubbish now but my mind was working overtime.
I went to a Faith Ringgold exhibit at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago. What a powerful collection of art highlighting injustices but at the same time showing the strength and determination for equality and justice. She wrote children's books as well. I have a few from my teaching days but have ordered some others to read to my grandchildren. It was one of the most moving museum experiences I have ever had.
The fifth picture down of the saying speaks volumes... and very true.

DeleteGreat photos. That was one of the most moving experiences I’ve ever had in a museum.
ReplyDeleteI am glad I went, and on a day when there were few people there.
DeleteHow lucky you were. It was mobbed when we were there but we were still able to appreciate it.
DeleteI went on a snowy day in the off season.

The Museum is in Washington DC. The United States has made a lot of progress, but we have work left to do.
DeleteIf I should ever get to Washington D.C., The National Museum of African American History and Culture would be at the top of my tourist itinerary.
ReplyDeleteTickets are free, and must be booked in advance.
