Remember traveling by airline, going the airport, checking in, the joys of TSA, being packed in like sardines, airline food, and waiting at baggage claim; the good old days, I can vaguely remember them.
This weeks Sunday five:
1: Have you flown on Frequent Flyer miles or points?
2: Have you ever been upgraded to first class without paying for it?
3: Do you normally check a bag when you fly?
4: Is there an airline you hope to never fly again?
5: Do you have any pending travel plans?
My answers:
1: Have you flown on Frequent Flyer miles or points? Many, many times, most of my trips to Europe.
2: Have you ever been upgraded to first class without paying for it?
A few times, the first time I checked in, cleared security and was walking to the gate and an airline employee came up next to me and said, "pardon me, I think you are on the flight to Detroit, would you mind being upgraded to first class, I need to move weight forward in the plane and you look like you will do."
3: Do you normally check a bag when you fly? Almost always. I get free checked bags on my two most commonly used airlines.
4: Is there an airline you hope to never fly again? Not that bad, but United is close to being on my never fly them again list.
5: Do you have any pending travel plans? Yes, soon, for the first time in 18 months.
Please share your answers in the comments.
1: Have you flown on Frequent Flyer miles or points? Yes. Free flights and upgrades.
ReplyDelete2: Have you ever been upgraded to first class without paying for it? In the old days, a number of times. Hasn’t happened for years.
3: Do you normally check a bag when you fly? Yes.
4: Is there an airline you hope to never fly again? Not that I can think of, although there are airports I like to avoid.
5: Do you have any pending travel plans? Hoping for a re-book in spring. We’ll see.
New York in spring can be delightful
DeleteI have no travels plans as yet. I don't feel comfortable yet doing it, with the horror stories and the smug privileged who feel they don't want to follow guidelines. A married couple of mine just flew to Paris. On the way back there was much arguing about masks...mostly Americans, but of course.
ReplyDeleteIt's gonna take one person to go postal. Hopefully by summer of 2022 it gets better, otherwise a trip will be bumped again.
Paris, I need to go back
Delete1. Yes, never a free flight but good discounts by points. But we have lost many that expired and an airline collapse saw us lose many.
ReplyDelete2. My partner was once. Check in staff take one look at me and think, nah.
3. We usually have luggage to check in. I am a gay man. I don't travel light.
4. No but I would be reluctant to use BA domestically again. I don't know how a seat could be so uncomfortable. A wooden stool bolted to the floor would have been better.
5. No. It is too soon after lockdown for us to get our heads around booking anything.
Sounds like a 757
Delete1: Have you flown on Frequent Flyer miles or points? No
ReplyDelete2: Have you ever been upgraded to first class without paying for it? Yes twice …I was so excited x
3: Do you normally check a bag when you fly? Yes x
4: Is there an airline you hope to never fly again? Air lingus
5: Do you have any pending travel plans? Noooooooo
Someday you will be back across the pond
Delete1. Oddly never flown using my frequent flyer points.
ReplyDelete2. Dozens of times. The ONLY perk of being a road warrior.
3. Not if I don't have to. I did on way back from Paris, so I didn't have to fight for overhead space. And if they misplaced the luggage, at least it was on the way home - not there.
4. EasyJet. If it Europe - take the train. Or walk before you use them.
5. No plans. Not that include airlines anyway.
Road warriors often don't want to fly when it is not work
DeleteHahahahaha, moving weight forward and "you look like you will do" -- but hey, getting to fly in first class is worth a veiled insult!
ReplyDeleteOne advantage of being spherical
DeleteRegretably, my fear of unscheduled landings has kept me from partaking in this mode of transportation. So I guess I will answer "no" to all five questions.
ReplyDeleteThere are plenty of trains and boats
Delete1: Have you flown on Frequent Flyer miles or points? Yes, a few times.
ReplyDelete2: Have you ever been upgraded to first class without paying for it? Yes, several times.
3: Do you normally check a bag when you fly? Yes, almost always. The one time I wasn't going to, they ran out of overhead space and made me check it anyway.
4: Is there an airline you hope to never fly again? Yes, Allegiant.
5: Do you have any pending travel plans? After this current trip to NY, nothing is scheduled but I'm hoping for London in the Spring.
London, BA has a sale going on
Delete1. Frequent flyer points - many times to all five continents.
ReplyDelete2. Upgraded to first without paying? Nope, never, not even once - but my preferred airline didn’t have first class
3. Check a bag? Depends on trip. If short trip on business, no, if long trip on business, yes. If flying budget airline and it costs to check, nope.
4. airline not to fly? LOT “business”…”you vant drink with that?”…oh and internal India flight a bit of turbulence and masks deployed…oh and a flight into Burma, seat belt didn’t have a clasp so I tried to tie a knot.
5. YES! 2022 War of the Worlds Amsterdam
A new voice, thanks for joining the conversation. I have heard other comments on LOT
