The Saturday Morning Post - Who - What -Where - When - Week 2

Who have I been spending time around?  My sweet bear, his oldest brother Ed who will be 81 this month, Ed came to visit for a few days.

What have I been thinking about.  Photographs, I am averaging about 1,000 exposures a month.  I haven't had this much fun with cameras since I was a teenager.  I am active enough to start to have deep thoughts about the current art of photography, framed with the history of someone who has been doing this for 50 years, who was mentored by photographers dating back a hundred years (I have my Grandfather's Kodak Autographic camera.) I am afraid of boring my readers by going off into photo geek talk, maybe this is the topic for a second blog.  I really think a second blog is a retirement project.  Each blog takes 4 or 8 hours to create content and monitor it per week.  I tried a daily photo blog, and gave up after a few months, I was having a hard time finding time to create content.  But in another couple of years,

When, as of last weekend, I am potentially 24 months from retirement.  I will likely stay flexible on that, there is a potential for a new assignment at work, and I don't want to dissuade decision makers by saying I am only going to do this until x-date.  And if I really like it, I might morph it and work a little longer (with more flexibility I could see that working.) This also puts me 6 months from the emergency retirement option, not a route I want to do, but if push came to shove, it would get me to Medicare without having to scramble for a job with health benefits.

Where, have I been around home.  I was in the office a couple of days this week, then sightseeing near home for the rest of the week.  My traveling mind is in Scotland and England, the latest episode of the Grand Tour just posted, it is set in Scotland, what amazing countryside, and someplace I have not been.  I see the Instagram feed from Edinburgh and I long to go there.

I have a disconnected social media presence.  The blog you are reading.  Two instagram accounts - that was a mistake - and I can't be bothered expending the effort to fix it.  Facebook, which I increasingly dislike. I miss the days when Jackie posted photos on Facebook of every meal she ate in a restaurant (and she traveled 90 days out of the year.) No twitter, I loathe the concept of twitter.

How was your week?

I used to wonder what will happen to millions and millions of digital photos taken daily. Now the thought has changed to what has been happening to all these photos taken by people who have died. Do families treasure them as they would have hard copy photos or never find the time to go through them. Although there is almost a photographic record of everything now, perhaps important photos will be lost because of the sheer number of photos that no one can deal with.

    1. When we sorted out my father's house after he died, one of the challenges was 2-3,000 photo prints. We didn't keep all of them, we really didn't keep very many of them. I print some of my favorites, but I don't know as anyone will want any of them.

  2. Another busy week for me! I agree with pictures. It's amazing how many pictures I take in a week. Half the time, I don't think I'm even aware I'm even taking pictures. My blog is very visual...and I don't even share half of the pictures I have, which is why I went to Instagram to share others I don't post. But the blog is my #1 investment. I sometimes think I use to many pictures in my personal posts of travel and local scene like the lake, flowers, New Hope, birds and such... but everybody seems to like it and I get a lot of comments on them. One reason I did those Happy Moments posts...so everyday could join in.

  3. Another week survived. What a world. I should probably count how many photos I take in a week. Some days, I download 300, delete 200, edit 40 to share. I love this digital flexibility. I, too, have a disconnected social media presence. Joined twitter and quickly hated it myself.

    1. I only delete images that are blurred, or clearly mistakes. I seldom edit (the image above is an exception.)

  5. We had a bad storm last weekend so we spent several days cleaning up branches and yard debris from the storm in anticipation of the stormy weather we'd have this week and then that weather never arrived.
Still, now the yard is neat and tidy!

    1. In the high rise, we seldom hear the storm, I did pass a honda civic with an oak tree on it the other day.

  6. I envy your 1000 photos. It's been too hot to get out too much for taking photos. I did manage a few yesterday. At the end of the month, I'll have four days to cool off in Newport Beach.

  7. Edinburgh was the one place Rick Steves ever steered me wrong. He said 3 days was enough. I could have spent a week there easily.

  8. My week sucked big hairy donkey, uh, ears! I'm getting used to heating water on the stove and taking, ahem, ho baths. Unfortunately, I'm not the kind of person who can tolerate a cold shower no matter how hot it gets around here. I have another surly week and a half before the home warranty people can even come to look at the water heater, let alone fix it. The previous plumber fixed the pilot doohicky, got paid, and then turned it off because of the pre-blowing up sound the sucker made (the heater, not the plumber). He never got back to us. Oh well, if it gets too bad, I can always hit up the kids for a shower. First world problems, right?
