Somehow the Sears Tower became the Willis Tower in Chicago. One of the tallest buildings in the world (17th according to the internet.) Near the very top, high above Chicago, is an observation level, with glass boxes suspended out the side of the building. Standing in line waiting your turn in the box, you will think, is this a good idea? Do I really trust the engineers? If you are in Chicago, do it, just go for it, the views are amazing.
I haven't been there for a few years. I had a run of a decade or so or one or more visits to Chicago each year. I should go back.
I’ve never done it and THINK I would love it. SG wouldn’t even get off the early.
ReplyDeleteIt was fun, probably not for everyone. I love the views from high places.
DeleteSo do I.
DeleteI love Chicago and have been several times with my last job. The Bean and the Tower are the only sites I have had time to see. The glass boxes are cool as long as I looked out. I don't mind heights, but I didn't look straight down.
ReplyDeleteI seldom look straight, up or down. Lots of neat things to see and do in Chicago.
DeleteI may trust Chicago engineers but maybe not Miami engineers. We have a building with a glass box that goes out opaque and then changes to clear glass. Were you scared? For me at least, it will always be the Sears Tower.
ReplyDeleteI had to rationalize to myself that it was safe, so glad I did it. The high rise in Miami passed inspection just shortly before.
DeleteFabulous photos, especially the first one! The CN Tower in Toronto has an area with glass flooring where you can stand and look straight down -- ALL THE WAY DOWN, gulp. It made me nervous to stand on it too. You can't help the "what if's" running through your mind, LOL!
ReplyDeleteWe need to go back to Toronto
DeleteI worked in Chicago for two years between 1998 & 2000. I went up to see the view a couple of times while there. It really is spectacular.
ReplyDeleteHancock is also fun
DeleteI have a fear of heights, and I don't think I could do that!
ReplyDeleteNot for everyone
DeleteI would like standing on the floor and looking OUT and DOWN the glass floor, but I wonder how I'd feel about standing on it.
ReplyDeletestepping out is a leap of faith
DeleteNOPE!
ReplyDeleteAnd you know, I wouldn't force anyone who was not comfortable. There is a large area with windows at waist level where you would likely enjoy the view and feel more secure. Or maybe you would feel better staying at ground level and looking up.
DeleteNo, sweetie, I would feel better not being in Chicago at all. Birthplace and home of fourteen years to Balder Half. Visited there for his family every two years reunion forty-five years ago. I hated it. Never went back.
DeleteIf I remember right, I think I was on a glass platform somewhere else. It's been so long, I can't recall where. If I have something to brace me I don't mind heights. Love rollercoasters, but can't climb a ladder.
The Hancock building I think. There is some great food in Chicago,
DeleteWhen you do tell me I want to go back too.
