Sunday Five Blogging

Once a year or so I do a blog post about blogging.  So here we go.

1: How long have you been blogging or reading blogs?
2: How many posts did you post last year?
3: Do you have a formula for posts?
4: Do you create posts ahead of time or plan them out, or use regular themes?
5: Why do we do this?

My answers:
1: How long have you been blogging or reading blogs? I started reading blogs in 2005, guest blogged for a friend that August, then put up my first post on September 3, 2005, 13.5 years ago.
2: How many posts did you post last year? 374
3: Do you have a formula for posts?  I always start with a photo. About 97% of the photos I have taken (the way we were Wednesdays has lowered this percentage.) The image gives me an idea or an inspiration, or sometimes I just think it is an interesting image.
4: Do you create posts ahead of time or plan them out, or use regular themes? Most of mine are created ahead of time, and scheduled.  I have done Sunday five for a couple of years, and started The Way We Were Wednesdays this past year.  I have done 12 on 12 a few times.
5: Why do we do this?  Blogging gives me a place to share photos, I have been taking pictures for 50 years and love sharing my favorites.  By limiting myself to one or two a day, hopefully I am not boring anyone.  Blogging gives me a place to vent and share my views.  Blogging everyday, has brought discipline to my writing.  Despite the typos, my writing has improved, despite the strange sentence constructions, my writing is better than it was.  To be a better writer, read, write, edit and repeat endlessly.

  1. 1: How long have you been blogging or reading blogs? I've read blogs for 14 years and had my own just over 12 years now. Where does the time go?

2: How many posts did you post last year? I had 377 last year.

3: Do you have a formula for posts? I too open with a photo, and then have photos sprinkled in between words. I myself am very visual.

4: Do you create posts ahead of time or plan them out, or use regular themes? I have done or do both.

5: Why do we do this? Well I like to blog to share about things I see or do, to share my one huge interest of drag, which is what my blog was based in originally, clear my mind of thoughts, chuckles or creative junk, and to keep it, as a daily dairy of sorts. I love all the conversation we have too, and I find I'm getting more attracted to blogs where the blogger answers back to comments. When I stop blogging, if I do, or the platform dies out, I plan to keep it up, and not delete it, like so many do. It boggles me how someone can delete years of work of something to just delete it. Even if it's not who you are now...it can always show where you came from and show some growth.

  2. 1: How long have you been blogging or reading blogs? Both since 2010.
2: How many posts did you post last year? Around 330.
3: Do you have a formula for posts? Nope.
4: Do you create posts ahead of time or plan them out, or use regular themes? No themes (although I really enjoy yours and others). I usually write fresh each day. Sometimes, I'll be inspired and have one ready to go the day before.
5: Why do we do this? I find it therapeutic to share my experiences and to read about others'. Have learned so much about people (and myself) as a result. It really makes me think. Definitely has enriched my life.

  4. 1. Reading since about 2007. Writing my own blog since Sept, 2008.
    2. 108 posts in 2018.
    3. My formula is lots of (usually fun) images to break up the text and not to blather on for too long.
    4. Yes, I plan. Yes, I schedule. Yes, I have themes to a certain extent but I'm always willing to go off on strange tangents.
    5. For the international fame and fortune, of course.

  6. 1: 2006 - can you imagine?
2: I posted nearly every day, so I guess about 300
3: I wait for The Muses or somebody like them to give me inspiration. Often I merely start typing and see what happens.
4: Most are impromptu but sometimes (when inspired) I write down basic ideas and later expand them.
5: Mostly because I love to write.
