My Answers:
1: When was the last time, if ever, you used a rotary dial phone? In the early 1990's visiting my sister and my parents one summer on the farm.
2: Do you know anyone's phone number without looking it up? No. Someone asked me Sweet Bear's number, and I had to look it up.
3: Is your computer on WiFi or a cable? My desktop is plugged directly into the modem, everything else is WiFi.
4: Do you remember Windows 95? Yes, there was a YouTube the other day that encountered Windows NT, the child (in his 30's) had never hear of it before.
5: What was the earliest operating system you worked on? Basic, I develop a program for home builders to price a home, add options, and calculate five different financing options. I gave a copy to a friend, who shared with a friend, who built a nice business out of it. I used their version of it the last few years I was in Florida. I started it, someone else made something out of it (I never felt bad about the fact that someone took what I started and made a finished product out of it.)

1. Slight guess but I think it was our 1940s Bakelite phone, which we sold in about 1992 along with almost all things old.
ReplyDelete2. I know my landline number that I haven't used for years, and my late partner's number. I have the phone now and I pay a nominal amount each year to keep it active.
3. All is WiFi now. I would hate to count how many devices use the WiFi.
4. Oh yes, and is was a marvellous advance over Windows 3.1, although perhaps not as stable. I had forgotten about Windows NT, which I think was more for businesses.
5. I don't really understand this question. I never worked on an operating system.
My old office ran on Windows NT, until microserf stopped supporting security updates.

DeleteWell, back in West Feliciana Parish, I remember when Mr. Neg Haskey came to the farm, took the crank Ma Bell telephone out of the hallway, and replaced it with a rotary-dial phone. Mama had him run a long cord, so we didn't have to stand in the hallway to use the telephone.
ReplyDeleteI would struggle with a crank powered phone. We had the first phone in the house in about 1966 or 67.
