Friday Reflection: On visiting family

I was there to spend time with family.

I was not there to judge, the housekeeping, the house, the food, the dog, the politeness of the kids.

I am delighted to see you as you are, where you are, just as you are.

I don't care if the dog barks, or the cat sheds, or the baby fusses, or there are toys are on the floor. Those are all signs of a perfectly wonderful life.

When you come to visit me, and please do, don't expect me to make my bed, dust or clean off my desk.  I don't live like that, and you are not here to judge my home, you are here to spend time with family.

You probably do many things differently than I do, that is just fine, do it your way, you are you.

Travel Penguin stayed in his travel burro most of this trip. He didn't greet his distant cousins - they smelled like dead fish - but we really didn't care - we were not there to judge the housekeeping, we were there to spend time with family and friends.

    1. I did, I hope one of them didn't spend to much time trying to make the house perfect.

  5. How on earth a penguin shacked up with a hamster is beyond me. A wolf and a hyena - yes, even a cat and a dog but a penguin and a hamster sounds like a massive fracture in evolutionary development. Do hamsters even like fish?

    1. My sister worked at the Zoo last summer, the staff refer to that section as the stinky birds.

  7. I never care about how others live, the dogs or cats or any of that stuff; it's the visit that matters.
That said, I make the bed every single day and the house is generally very clean.

  8. And yet, sometimes there is a joy in the preparation for receiving guests. Sometimes you will do things for your friends and family that you might not do for yourself on any random Thursday.
