The Sunday Five: Big Thoughts

1: What emerging technology do you think is going to have the biggest impact on life ten years from now?

2: Should the average home get larger or smaller over the next ten years?

3: What is the most important thing for schools to teach today?

4: If travel to the moon was as easy and safe as going to the grocery store, would you go?

5: How do you eat a 100 pound Chocolate Easter Bunny?

My Answers:

1: What emerging technology do you think is going to have the biggest impact on life ten years from now? Autonomous vehicles, driverless cars, trucks, drones.

2: Should the average home get larger or smaller over the next ten years? Homes should get smaller.

3: What is the most important thing for schools to teach today? Human interaction. Machines can do research, write, make decisions, fly airplanes, what they don't do as well at is making people feel like they are valued, understood, or believed.

4: If travel to the moon was as easy and safe as going to the grocery store, would you go? No, and I am not sure why.

5: How do you eat a 100 pound Chocolate Easter Bunny?  One bite at a time.

Please share your answers in the comments.

I am on a digital detox. This post was written ahead of time and scheduled to appear today. I have not missed posting at least once per day in over a decade. While on this detox, I will not have internet access many days, when I do have access it will be limited. Please continue to leave comments, but I may not reply to comments. I will read comments when I can. Normal service will resume in late May.

  1. 1. AI, and I find it worrisome.
    2. Smaller, I should think. Like your country, our houses are large, too large.
    3. I suggest that at school without phones, they will automatically learn human interaction. If they have good arithmetic and good written and language skills, the rest should follow, which I would ensure included media and political cynicism.
    4. No, not interested in space or the moon. Best we leave it alone and not pollute it, as is happened.
    5. Over several weeks, or even months.

  2. 1. AI. I refuse to even dabble in it. I could render so many jobs useless, it will be devastating on the economy.
    2. They should be smaller and more functional. Who the fuck needs a 19' ceiling. How many 18' people do they know?
    3. See #1. AI will render writing and math unneeded subjects. How that trickles down in a knowledge base is horrifying. Civics, Diplomacy, Human interaction should now be at the top of the list.
    4. What is the point? To look back at Earth? Sounds like a day trip. But it took us like 50 years to get back there. No tour groups will be going in my lifetime.
    5. First off.......it has to be dark chocolate or I'm not even bothering to try.

  3. 1: What emerging technology do you think is going to have the biggest impact on life ten years from now? AI, which gets scarier by the day.
2: Should the average home get larger or smaller over the next ten years? Definitely smaller with energy costs going up and up.
3: What is the most important thing for schools to teach today? How to be engaged in society; less screen time.
4: If travel to the moon was as easy and safe as going to the grocery store, would you go? If someone purchased me a ticket I might think on it.
5: How do you eat a 100 pound Chocolate Easter Bunny? I don't; I don't care for chocolate.

  4. 1: What emerging technology do you think is going to have the biggest impact on life ten years from now? AI. A friend and I having a face-to-face conversation and she said her super smart kid commented that stuff which takes him 1-2 weeks to figure out can now be done in minutes. He checks for accuracy, but he likes figuring stuff out and worries if it will take his job someday.
2: Should the average home get larger or smaller over the next ten years? I think it depends on where you are in your life. I loved my big home when raising the fam but now my smaller home fits the current lifestyle.
3: What is the most important thing for schools to teach today? Human interaction and how to cope if there is a power outage and none of the electronic devices are accessible. What to do if there isn't a screen in front of you!
4: If travel to the moon was as easy and safe as going to the grocery store, would you go? No. Leave the moon alone.
5: How do you eat a 100 pound Chocolate Easter Bunny? Share it with friends!

  6. 1: What emerging technology do you think is going to have the biggest impact on life ten years from now? AI, it's changing things already.
2: Should the average home get larger or smaller over the next ten years? smaller
3: What is the most important thing for schools to teach today? The importance of understanding how government works and making sure it's following the rules.
4: If travel to the moon was as easy and safe as going to the grocery store, would you go? Yes!

  7. 1: What emerging technology do you think is going to have the biggest impact on life ten years from now? AI for both good and I'll.
2: Should the average home get larger or smaller over the next ten years? Perhaps this needs to be edited. Existing housing stock will still weigh the average for larger homes. I think that the average new home should be smaller to mitigate the resource impact.
3: What is the most important thing for schools to teach today? Critical thinking through the study of the physical and life sciences, mathematics, literature, and the arts and humanities. All of this in the hope that someone needs to check the work of AI and ensure that the prompts include ethical limits.
4: If travel to the moon was as easy and safe as going to the grocery store, would you go? I'll go to the grocery store while everyone else is queued up to go to the moon. The checkout lines at the grocery store should be much shorter.
5: How do you eat a 100 pound Chocolate Easter Bunny? Always start with the ears so the bunny does not hear what you are going to do to it.
