Travel Tuesday: Smithsonian Museum of Natural History

A couple of weeks ago, I wanted to get out of the house for a few hours while some maintenance was being done. I hopped the subway into the city, and spent a couple of hours in the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History. I was there when the museum first opened for the day, and had an hour or so, before the children descended with the accompanying cacophony of noise. I would pay to have a couple of hours of silence in a couple of the museums.

  1. The Natural History, of the Smithsonian has always been my favorite museum in DC. You know I loved the birds and elephant.

    1. I couldn't help but think, if we are not careful, that is the only place we will see the variety of birds.

  2. I like natural history museums. I don't remember when I last saw the Smithsonian's, but I do remember Paris from back in 2009.

  5. I would love to visit that museum - but only after the moai statue has been returned to Rapa Nui where it belongs.

  7. It must be wonderful to have all that practically right outside your front door.

Not the kids, though, not the kids.

  8. Great set of photos. I know what you mean about the noise. It's always nice to visit a museum when it's quiet and peaceful.

    1. There are a couple of the museums that draw large numbers of children, that morning it was nursery school and elementary school groups. It is good for the kids to see the wonders of the museum, but the noise can be difficult.
