The Sunday Five: Booze

1: Do you drink alcohol?

2: Did you participate in "Dry January?"

3: A martini, Gin or Vodka, Shaken or Stirred?

4: Is there a place you would consider your local pub or bar?

5: What is your favorite drink to order?

My Answers:

1: Do you drink alcohol? Yes, in moderation.

2: Did you participate in "Dry January?" No. No reason to.

3: A martini, Gin or Vodka, Shaken or Stirred? Gin, extra dry, shaken.

4: Is there a place you would consider your local pub or bar? For most of my life the answer was no, there was never anyplace close by, or within walking distance. Here at the condo, we have a bar in the community center, a two minute walk across the back drive.

5: What is your favorite drink to order? I am most likely to ask for water, if I order a cocktail away from home, a gin martini, or a Manhattan.

Please share your answers in the comments.

  1. Do you drink alcohol? Yes!
Did you participate in "Dry January?" Surely you jest?
A martini, Gin or Vodka, Shaken or Stirred? Gin, shaken.
Is there a place you would consider your local pub or bar? Yes. Five I like.
What is your favorite drink to order? Gin and Tonic, almost always. But I also like mojitos, Pimms Cups, and a good dry red wine.

  2. 1. I certainly do.
    2. No. Why would I?
    3. Gin, stirred so not bruised by shaking. Getting the right amount of vermouth is a skill bar staff should have, and I don't have that skill.
    4. No, but we used to have a local pub.
    5. Cocktails here are quite expensive. In the daytime if at a pub for a family gathering, I usually have a gin and tonic in a small glass.

    1. At the Wild Turkey Distillery the docent explained the Australian tax system, WT was developing low proof pre-mixed coctails because the tax was significantly lower than shipping in high proof. They were shipping in like 5,000 gallon stainless steel tanks.

  3. 1: Do you drink alcohol? Not anymore.
2: Did you participate in "Dry January?" Not by choice. By kidneys!
3: A martini, Gin or Vodka, Shaken or Stirred? Gin... or vodka. No preference on shaken or stirred either.
4: Is there a place you would consider your local pub or bar? So many options.
5: What is your favorite drink to order? There were so many. At one point I loved White Russians. Long Island Iced Tea (after the first one). Gin & Tonic. Chocolate Martini.

  4. 1. I do. But now it is very rarely.
    2. Nah. Though truth be told, I only had two beers in January.
    3. IF I have a marini, which is super super rare: gin. Until recently I didn't have a shaker, so they'd have just been stirred.
    4. I don't go out enough to do that, but IF I had one, it is within walking distance from home. That's important.
    5. Anymore it is usually a margarita on the rocks, no salt. Silver tequila. No agave, but simple syrup is ok.

  5. 1: Do you drink alcohol? No. I guzzle it like a water buffalo.
2: Did you participate in "Dry January?" Ha-ha! Of course not.
3: A martini, Gin or Vodka, Shaken or Stirred? Not for me thank you very much.
4: Is there a place you would consider your local pub or bar? Yes. In fact I have three locals - "The Banner Cross Hotel", "The Itchy Pig" and "The Hammer and Pincers".
5: What is your favorite drink to order? Non-alcoholic - a latte. Alcoholic - a pint of Tetley's bitter.

  6. 1: Do you drink alcohol? Yes, I do.
2: Did you participate in "Dry January?" I did this year because my friend asked me participate in Dry January with her. I don't drink much so it was easy for me. It gave me an opportunity to try a couple non-alcoholic wines (meh) and some NA cocktails (too fruity).
3: A martini, Gin or Vodka, Shaken or Stirred? Neither, thank you. My favorite martini memory is of my dad making martinis for my mom and him after he got home from work. He used a glass baby bottle to measure out the gin and vermouth, poured the concoction into pretty martini glasses, added a couple ice cubes, stirred, and then 3 olives in each.
4: Is there a place you would consider your local pub or bar? There are a few.
5: What is your favorite drink to order? Typically wine but I like to look at the cocktail menu and see what the bartenders sugest. When I'm in NYC, I always order a Manhattan in Manhattan.

2: Did you participate in "Dry January?" My birthday week is in January, so .... Nope.

3: A martini, Gin or Vodka, Shaken or Stirred? Vodka, preferably Ketel One and shaken

4: Is there a place you would consider your local pub or bar? There are a couple of good bars in downtown Camden.

5: What is your favorite drink to order? It's called a Bob-a-rita because I'm Bob and I will say I created it: two part Anejo Tequila, one part Fresh Lime, and one part Grand Marnier, shaken and served straight up with a wedge of lime.
