Texas is in the middle and bottom of the continental United States, when you look at a map, Texas is the weird pointy part center at the bottom of the map. Texas is huge, by landmass it is the second largest state (Alaska is larger.)
When people think of Texas they think of Dallas - Ft Worth, Houston, San Antonio, and Austin - I have been to all of them. Those are the largest cities. There are vast swaths of rolling farm and grazing land. The west part of the state is arid, and where the major oil fields are (I did an AARP gig in that part of the state.)
The two photos above were taken in Ft Worth, I was there for a board meeting in 2019.
Texas politics are conservative - to the point of being troubling.
Dallas and Houston are major airline hub cities, it is a state that is hard to avoid.
I will likely be in San Antonio early next year for a board meeting.

I don't think I would like Texas very much. That's probably no surprise to you.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I could live there.
DeleteI was in Dallas and Houston on business around 30 years ago. Also in Galveston. then in College Station to visit our nephew. The state wasn’t as distasteful as it is now. But I didn’t fall in love.
ReplyDeleteI am sure it has it's moments, most of what I have see is either deserted, or traffic jammed.
DeleteI have been to several places in Texas as my mother had a lot of family there. I liked Austin the best because it's weird, and then San Antonio. Houston and DFW are so sprawling they almost make LA seem small.
ReplyDeleteI am one of the few people I know, who didn't enjoy Austin.
DeleteI was in Houston 3 weeks ago for a weekend with my middle son's family. I would not want to live there but their suburb of Manvel doesn't seem quite as conservative as other parts. My DiL is doing a fellowship to become an oncologist and my son has a medical research lab there. So that is why they live there. There is a good-sized Chinese population there so that works well for them as my DiL is from China.
ReplyDeleteHouston has massive traffic challenges. We have dear neighbors that lived there for 30+ years. There is/was a huge oncology conference at the Gaylord Hotel at National Harbor just across the river from us this past week,
