The Saturday Morning Post - 50 States in 52 Weeks - South Carolina

The last time I spent anytime in South Carolina in late 2014 and I was not moving well, and I didn't take a camera with me, hence the photo above is not from South Carolina (sorry.) That trip was a board meeting in Charleston, a historic port city on the Atlantic coast.

South Carolina is north of Georgia, and south of North Carolina.  It is, was, and probably long will be the agricultural mid-south, with fishing along the coast. The far western end of the state climbs up the Appalachian mountains.

Columbia is the state Capital, I did a couple of AARP trainings there.

Driving down the east coast from the Washington DC area to Florida, South Carolina was a state that it was easy to drive through without stopping, as I often did.

Bob and Carlos live outside of Columbia, I have really got to meet the man behind those words someday.

The coast is pretty. The inland is deep south, old south. There are mountains in the west of the state, very near popular tourist spots.

  1. We were recently in a taxi with a driver who wanted to know all about Carolina del Norte. Someone had told him it was beautiful. He said it was a state in the north of the United States. I explained that is was in the south and he asked me why it was called north. Because it’s north of another state called Carolina del Sur. He thought that was hilarious.

    1. The name defies logic, why isn't West Virginia near the Pacific?

  2. It is a beautiful states with beautiful spots, but there's still quite a bit of Deep South here, and not in the good way.
I will say, the people are very nice here.
PS I live in a Blue town in a mostly Blue county in a Deeply Red state.

    1. I'd should spend more time there, and meet the state's most famous blogger.

  3. Years ago, we took a family trip to Hilton Head as my then husband's boss owned a home there that he let employees use. We drove with our 5 kids and I always refer to it as our vacation from hell. Long story but van broke down in Kentucky, kids were afraid of the ocean, beautiful home was all glass and mirrors and not very kid friendly. Their favorite thing about the trip was cable TV! :)

  6. I have an on-line friend in Charleston. From her writing, I've learned about a lot of fine restaurants there. You should check them out.
