The National Gallery of Art is not a part of the Smithsonian, it was independently founded and funded, to avoid the whims of Congress influencing the artistic content.

This space is easy to miss at the National Gallery of Art, it is the outer office of the coat check at the main floor entrance.

  1. "Building the stage for the inauguration." No doubt which will garner the biggest most huge crowd ever in history of any US President ever of the United States. Can't you hear the wind bag already? Yawn.

I doubt his will be as educated and the level of tasteful decorum that Biden's had. I'm already wondering what time the busty strippers will make their appearance.

  2. Yes, of course the oxen need a walk. Nothing to see here.
The focus on the bird is amazing.
I think the official measurement of the crack would be a 'decent sized gap'.
The post was spoilt by mention of the inauguration. I feel sick.

  3. I was so enjoying this until I saw “building the stage” and was brought back to reality. Still, what a great week for you.

    1. It could be used as a scaffold, but public executions are thought distasteful.

    1. A section of that wall along the riverside collapsed a few summers ago.

  5. I love the black-and-white windowsill photo. Years back at a gallery in Napa I found a black-and-white windowsill photo that I bought; it's really simple, but it struck somethin g in me and does every time I look at it. I'll share it next week ...
Always enjoy your walkabout photos, and I want to move into the outer office of the coat check at the main floor entrance.

    1. I was thinking the outer office would make a grand office, or living room.

  6. I spy some I. M. Pei pyramids in one of your photos. Dayton, OH has a building designed by Pei and ever since it was built back in the late 70s, his work has interested me. https://boundarystones.weta.org/2019/05/31/how-im-pei-brought-modern-architecture-national-mall

    1. There is an underground walkway between the two building, under the glass pyramids, is a waterfall, and a cafe where I had lunch that day.

  7. It must be exciting to live so near to all of these treasures! Your photos are wonderful. You did bring me down with the scaffolding one but I scrolled back through the other photos again to lift me up.
