Travel Tuesday - Amtrak New Jersey

This was taken out of the window of an Amtrak Passenger train stopped at a station in New Jersey, on my way to New York, about 5 or 6 years ago.  I love the darkness, the people mostly in shadow waiting in front of the No Waiting sign.  A framed print of this hangs in my bedroom. I am so glad I looked up, looked out as the train stopped at that station.

What is your favorite memory of something seen as you were passing by?

  1. It's an almost haunting shot. Brought back fond memories of when I worked at our New Jersey Bloomies location and would often taken the the regional NJ transit into New York via the Metro Park station.

The only memorable train ride I had with scenery was by far on the Orient Express en-route to Vienna. Jaw dropping vistas through part of Switzerland and Germany.

It is a good photo and could be improved by one of them smoking.

Pretty common in NYC a few years ago.

  3. What a moment captured. Excellent, powerful photo. What comes to mind for me was a train ride when we were exploring placing to live in AndalucĂa. We were on our way back to Sevilla from Jerez de la Frontera. SG had just gone to buy some drinks. I looked out and saw an enormous flock of wild flamingoes in a pond and in the air.

  5. onboard the california zephyr in the mid-90s on the way to reno. outside of denver, the train climbs into the rockies. in places, all there is to see is snow, nature, and the train. so peaceful and unspoiled.

I am wracking my brains trying to think of something memorable like this; nothing is coming to mind at the moment.

  7. Wow, what a great shot! Good eye to catch that. I'm sure there have been many things but what pops in my head is when I spotted a momma bear and her two cubs playing near the side of the road on trip to Canada. I had to pull over and watch for a while.

  8. That photo is creepily artsy, or artsily creepy. I don't think I have a favorite passing by memory, unless you count sitting on my cabin balcony on a cruise ship heading for Hawaii. In the middle of the ocean, just sipping on a cup of coffee while being mesmerized by the endless stretch of water, when all of a sudden, flying fish! Quick little suckers! I thought it was a trick of the light until they jumped out again. It was so cool, even when the gulls decided to join in the show. Since the ship was moving, I'm going to consider this a passing by something memory. So, there, nyah-nyah.
