Our dear fellow Spo is on the road for a memorial service and recently wrote about wearing a watch - and the memories that brought to him. Hence this weeks Sunday Five, remembering and being remembered.
- What item brings you the greatest flood of memories of someone gone from this existence?
- Have you ever gotten rid of an object, because of the memories related to it?
- Is there anything you should get rid of?
- What would you like to give to someone so they will remember you when they see or touch it?
- Is there something you would like to have to remind you of someone?
My answers:
- What item brings you the greatest flood of memories of someone gone from this existence? My fathers flying log books. I don't even have to open them.
- Have you ever gotten rid of an object, because of the memories related to it? The most trying was a copy machine, I actually left and had someone else toss it for me.
- Is there anything you should get rid of? The back brace I wore back in 2015, when I had my spine repaired.
- What would you like to give to someone so they will remember you when they see or touch it? Lots of things likely no one wants.
- Is there something you would like to have to remind you of someone? My grandmother's daily diaries are lost in my cousins house in Florida. Likely to never be found.

What item brings you the greatest flood of memories of someone gone from this existence? I have a corny little flower child statuette that my sister gave me when I went away to university. It reads "In those quiet moments when you're alone with yourself, think of me now and then."
ReplyDeleteHave you ever gotten rid of an object, because of the memories related to it? Yep.
Is there anything you should get rid of? some ugly little flower pots that sit on a dresser because they were a gift.
What would you like to give to someone so they will remember you when they see or touch it? Kindness (OK, they can't see or touch it... but that's it0
Is there something you would like to have to remind you of someone? There was a cassette of my 16-year-old sister on the phone with her pen pal from Japan. It was hilarious. I lost it in a move. I wish I still had it.
It is okay, to regift, passing on the object until it brings joy to someone, but it is hard. I set here and look around, there is a small figurine on top of the wide-format printer, that I only keep because it was a gift from dear friends.

Generally I don't have answers to the questions but I recently sent to my 78 year uncle his signed 21st birthday key. There were some nice memories there.
ReplyDeleteAndrew, you had a great answer, I had never heard of a 21st birthday key, Thanks to G00GLE and you, I now do.
DeleteI did wonder if the 21st key was known around the world. Seems not.
DeleteWhat item brings you the greatest flood of memories of someone gone from this existence? Normally, I don't do objects and memorabilia, but, strangely, after my mother passed and I returned home, I saw a rosary that belonged to Carlos. For whatever reason, it reminded me of my mother, who was not Catholic, nor am I. But I hung it from the rearview mirror of my car and every time I get in the car I tough it.
ReplyDeleteHave you ever gotten rid of an object, because of the memories related to it? I am not a keeper of too many things. I'll keep the memory, or, in some cases, discard them.
Is there anything you should get rid of? Not too much; we live very simply. My rule is"Want the things you have, don't have the things you want."
What would you like to give to someone so they will remember you when they see or touch it? Nothing but a memory of a laugh and a good time.
Is there something you would like to have to remind you of someone? Not a physical object, just remembrances.
You share lots of laughs,

ReplyDelete1 - my knitting; grandmom is teaching me and knitting along with me
Delete2 - plenty of baggage/material items
3 - at the moment, no
4 - a hand-knitted object
5 - during the winter holidays, my grandmom had a red candle in a glass holder displayed in the living room. I have that object; I will never part with it
Grandma Emily was a major force in my life, lots of great memories. I have a paperweight that was always on her desk.
Delete1. There are so many items around the house from my parents. A look at any of them brings back a flood of memories. They both have been gone since 2009, and I think of them so many times a day. Even the quilt on my bed is from my mom's side of the family and brings back pleasant thoughts every time I crawl into bed.
ReplyDelete2. I can't think of anything. I even have a few items from my first two marriages.
3. See #2.
4. One or two of my beloved mice collection. Each one brings back a slew of memories of where I bought it or who gave it to me. I have over 200 figurines: wooden, glass, clay, cloth, bone china, even leather. Any one I gave them to would have to know that history and appreciate it. Maybe no one would care. Some were very expensive, and when I'm gone, they might just be thrown away. :(
5. I can't think of anything. I have so many things that bring back memories.
We have a collection of penguins (imaging that!)
Delete!. It has to be my books that came from my grandfather's collection. His library of books inspired me to read and I have a big selection of them on my book shelf.
ReplyDelete2.I can't think of anything. There is probably is something but I've forgotten all about it.
3. My mother made a lot of my clothes through the years and I still have one dress she made that I can't seem to get rid of even if I don't ever wear it.
4. I have a lamp that my aunt left to me and I know just the person who would love it as much as I do.
5. I can't think of anything at the moment but mind you, it's late and I've already had three glasses of wine.
I have two books from my grandmother's collection,
