The Way We Were Wednesday
This was about 16 - 17 years ago, the first time Travel and I met Stephen and Duncan. This was the infamous mushy peas lunch. The English and Irish serve mashed green peas, there are variations with some containing mashed potatoes, some with mint, others with just peas. It was the first time we have come across this. Jay ordered them, and then commented on the flavor that they retained the essential peaness. Say that fast, and see if you snicker?

ReplyDeletehi lil penguin buddy! (and sweet bear, of course). and I don't like peas (texture).
Great youtube clip; I love cantankerous old men.
DeleteI love peaness!
ReplyDeleteIn more ways than one
Deletedon't we ALL love peaness! :)
DeleteSnicker.
ReplyDeletegood day for a laugh
DeleteIf they actually DID retain the essential “peaness” (priceless), I might like them better. As it is, they're right up there (or down there) with baked beans and pickled beets!
ReplyDeleteYou don't like baked beans? Let me cook for you, and we will give that another try.
DeleteDavid:
DeleteDon't even suggest that. I have given them so many tries over the years. When we lived in Guilford, our little gourmet market made "the best baked beans in the world." Every one of our friends and neighbors said so. SG agreed. He told me that if I tried them and didn't like them, he would never ask me to try baked beans again. I tried them. I hated them. And I was done trying. So, no thanks.
Maybe a Sunday five question, what food do you detest that others think is just fine. For me broccoli
DeleteYes! Baked beans. Pickled beets. Mushy peas!
Deleteooooooooooh, YES to the sunday 5! I cannot abide most veggies, although I do like baked beans and raw carrots. and mashed potatoes with brown gravy. and sweet tater fries.
DeleteI have to admit there are some peanesses worthy of more then just a snicker ... I have met more then one in my younger days! LOL
ReplyDeleteDetested stuff: cilantro! Gag ... yuck ... patooey!
I hope it made people laugh
DeleteGawd, I hate mushy peas.
ReplyDeletenot a big fan either.
DeleteI hate cooked mushrooms, squash, cooked red peppers--it's the texture. Weirdly, I love raw apples, smooth applesauce, and despise cooked apples such as in an apple pie. Again, it's the texture.
ReplyDeleteI will eat almost anything, at least once.
DeletePeas mixed with mashed potatoes, my favorite. Mixed with rice, a close second. Straight up peaness is good from time to time.
ReplyDeleteChuckle!
DeleteWhoa. It's been a minute, no?
ReplyDeleteLove the little penguin. And I just cannot deal with green peas. I don't want to think about them mashed. Nope.
XOXO
Added some to the chicken soup I made tonight
DeleteI was so young and beautiful then...
ReplyDeleteYou still are dear
