The Sunday Five - Just a Sniff

My father had a great Uncle Bob on his mother's side, who sadly died before I was born. He had been a pub landlord in London, moved to NY and ran a bar in Brooklyn, quit drinking and moved to Miami during World War II.  He told my father, that he couldn't even sniff the cork after he quit drinking.  

 The last Sunday in January I ran a long list of questions, and Mistress Maddie commented that it was a good thing I didn't ask about drinking and sex.  We will avoid sex, 
  1. Any memorable hangovers in your life? 
  2. Any drink you have never sampled, that a lot of others have? 
  3. Do you miss wine-coolers? 
  4. Given the choice, bourbon, single malt, or Irish whiskey? 
  5. Have you ever gotten intoxicated before noon? 
My answers: 

  1. Any memorable hangovers in your life? The morning I graduated from College.  The honors reception was the evening before, I was surprised to be invited and learn I was in the top 10% of my class.  Professor Levis, ordered a second case of champagne.   
  2. Any drink you have never sampled, that a lot of others have? 
    Jagermeister. 
  3. Do you miss wine-coolers? Sorry Bartles and James, not at all. 
  4. Given the choice, bourbon, single malt, or Irish whiskey? Any of the above, bourbon if it is good bourbon. 
  5. Have you ever gotten intoxicated before noon? Nope

    1 - I was in college, drank 12 screwdrivers, came home at appointed time (I lived with parents). man, did the bed ever start spinning! first and only time I ever did that.

    1. Nope, I've never been that drunk. Gin just gets me a little sick,

    2. Absinthe is the first that comes to mind, but there's probably quite a few.

    3. Yes, I loooove wine coolers. Seagrams was a favorite. Made my own, also.

    Any memorable hangovers in your life? Too many to mention. But splitting a fifth of tequila (my first and last) with the girlfriend of one of my housemates was the worst. I lived on rice for a week. It took 20 years before I could even smell tequila without gagging.
    Any drink you have never sampled, that a lot of others have? Anything mixed with tequila!
    Do you miss wine-coolers? Never had So can’t miss.
    Given the choice, bourbon, single malt, or Irish whiskey? Bourbon, but only if I have to.
    Have you ever gotten intoxicated before noon? Sadly, yes. But not in a very, very long time.

    Have you ever gotten intoxicated before noon? nope, but I have started drinking at noon on vacations or at the beach.

    With my gin intake alone, I've not been sick in years...I hear im on the coronavirus's list to not even try to infantrat.

      We met John Gray for dinner last Thursday in Wales, I ordered a Hendrix Dry Martini, the bar tender didn’t have a clue how to make it.

      Apparently martinis are uncommon in Wales, if I had wanted it defiled with tonic, he would have been on it like a flash.

    Any memorable hangovers in your life? Oh dear yes. A trip to NYC - I don't remember how I got home other than I was in so much misery.
    Any drink you have never sampled, that a lot of others have? Tiki drinks; this will soon change.

    Any memorable hangovers in your life? I'll say 'yes'and leave it at that. The statute of limitations isn't quite up yet.

    Any drink you have never sampled, that a lot of others have? Champagne in a can. I'm no barbarian!

    Given the choice, bourbon, single malt, or Irish whiskey? I'd opt for the single malt.

    Have you ever gotten intoxicated before noon? I think I have but the memories are fuzzy.
