Sunday Five: Delivery

1: Do you order food through delivery services?

2: Have you had a delivery go missing? '

3: Why does the delivery bot, have round headlights?

4: Do you think delivery robots will serve your neighborhood soon?

5: Would you pause to let Kenshin finish crossing the street?

My answers:

1: Do you order food through delivery services? Not really, the restaurant at the condo delivers, one of the staff does the deliveries. We call it room service.

2: Have you had a delivery go missing? I ordered 6 copies of the book "Who Moved My Cheese" to give to colleagues, the driver sent a photo of them outside a door, but not my door. Amazon asked me to wait a few days to see if they showed up, they didn't and Amazon reshipped them.

3: Why does the delivery bot, have round headlights? To give it a cute animal like face. I read a book on this kind of design recently.

4: Do you think delivery robots will serve your neighborhood soon? Not at the Condo, because they can't get into the buildings, and delivery to the doors in the 16 story buildings is required.

5: Would you pause to let Kenshin finish crossing the street? Yes, I think delivery robots are the future in urban areas.

Please share your answers in the comments.

  1. Do you order food through delivery services? No, directly from the place, or I pick it up.
Have you had a delivery go missing? 'Not yet!
Why does the delivery bot, have round headlights? More pleasing I'm guessing.
Do you think delivery robots will serve your neighborhood soon? No.

Would you pause to let Kenshin finish crossing the street? How many gin have I had????

A friend in LA ordered from one of these. The thing tipped over and ruined his meal, and the service refused to get him a new meal or reimburse him the bill. I myself would never use one. 1- it's putting yet another person out of work, and 2 it makes for yet another person-to-person interaction extinct. And we already don't know how to communicate anymore as it is.

    1. Remember when the grocery stores had baggers, and insisted on helping you put the bags in the trunk?

  2. 1: Do you order food through delivery services? No. That is something I have never done.
2: Have you had a delivery go missing? See last answer. This does not apply.
3: Why does the delivery bot, have round headlights? I do not know what a delivery bot is to tell you the truth.
4: Do you think delivery robots will serve your neighborhood soon? I sincerely hope not. In my opinion it's technology gone mad at the expense of human jobs. Behind it all there are greedy men and greedy corporations seeking profit.
5: Would you pause to let Kenshin finish crossing the street? I would rather push Kenshin into a hole dug by utility workers or guide it into a deep, muddy puddle or smash it with a sledge hammer.

  3. 1: Do you order food through delivery services? No. The delivery fees and tip add a significant amount to the food bill.
2: Have you had a delivery go missing? A few Amazon orders.
3: Why does the delivery bot, have round headlights? To give a machine a "human" look. It is cute.
4: Do you think delivery robots will serve your neighborhood soon? No. My suburban neighborhood is too far away from restaurants for these robots to travel.
5: Would you pause to let Kenshin finish crossing the street? Yep!

    1. In the right mood, the bot could end up in the nearest river.

    1. There is a college campus west of here that has delivery robots, it texts the students when at the door, and they have to come out front to retrieve their order.

4: Do you think delivery robots will serve your neighborhood soon? Probably not. Streets and pavement are too old and irregular in much of the city.

    1. To work in many neighborhoods the structure would need to be changed, and then there is the elevator or stairs.

  10. 1: Do you order food through delivery services? No
2: Have you had a delivery go missing? 'Maybe once
3: Why does the delivery bot, have round headlights? As others have noted, to anthropomorphize what is essentially a Coleman cooler on wheels.
4: Do you think delivery robots will serve your neighborhood soon? I don't think so. As a former streetcar suburb, the homes are close enough for the neighborhood to be walkable, but separated enough to require some effort.
5: Would you pause to let Kenshin finish crossing the street? Maybe.
