My World of Wonders: May 27, 2026

Where have I been this week? I went to the grocery store last Wednesday, the farmers market on Saturday, and largely stayed at home. I have been to the treadmill in the gym a few times. Aldi, Safeway and filled the car with gas. And the library for a couple of books, I am way behind on my reading.

How am I doing?  I sneezed and my nose dripped across the Atlantic, and then I settled into a nice head cold once we were home.  A month of going, a little bit of stress, it has happened before.  I have been taking it easy, resting a lot.

What have I been up to in the kitchen? It is so nice to have a kitchen to play in. I made roast salmon with saffron rice, chicken rice and veggie soup (used up extra rice from the salmon,) smoked sausage and Austrian potato salad, roast pork tenderloin with tray roasted veggies. On Saturday I made pastry, with that I made a rhubarb tart, and two small pastry shells that I filled with pastry cream topped with fresh strawberries. For Memorial Day I wanted to make hamburgers, I looked in the freezer and I didn't have any buns, so I made them from scratch. The first time I have ever done that. So it was burgers, potato salad and homemade baked beans.

What have I been watching? An old Britcom, "To the Manor Born." I saw some clips from it on YouTube while traveling and just needed to rewatch it. Also Downton Abbey is replaying on PBS, I watched three episodes of that the other evening.

What about the photo above?  This was taken in an RER station in Paris, I don't know if they were on the way to their wedding, or just to have photos taken.  There were couples having wedding photos taken in at landmarks in Rome, Vienna and Paris. The bride is wearing black tennis shoes, a wise choice for navigating the trains.

Who have I seen this week? My Sweet Bear, Linda and Mike, Paul. Not many people because I was laying low while recovering from the cold.

What artsy stuff have I been up to? I am leading a session on Saturday on color block painting, to speed up the process I have been priming canvas in base colors. Shutterfly was having a free extra pages sale, so I uploaded 180 or so images from the trip and let the computer layout 74 page photo book. The sale reduced the price by about 70% (lots of extra pages.)

    1. It was a chance to play in the kitchen, and avoided needing to go out on a cool wet holiday weekend.
