I have been to Seattle several times for meetings or conferences, the cruise we did to Alaska back in 2008 was from Seattle. Washington State is the farthest northwest state in the continental United States.
Back in the summer of 2019 I had a board meeting in Seattle, and then rented a car for a week to drive around the the State of Washington. We went north from Seattle, and toured the Boeing Factory, the last 747 freighters were working their way down the line. We went north from there, with a couple of ferry crossings to the waterway that separates the United States from Canada. We took a whale watching boat tour and had incredible pie on a native American reservation. Over a couple of days we worked out way west to the farthest northwest point in the continental United States. Then turned south along the Pacific Coast. Shortly after crossing into Oregon, we turned Northeast, and visited Mt St. Helens. Drove west from there deeper into the mountains and then back to Seattle to return the rental car, spend a night in a Hilton across the street from the airport and fly home.
It was an amazing trip. I would do it again anytime.
Western Washington is rocky, forested, wet and beautiful. The mountains are amazing, and the plains east of there are fertile. Seattle is home to tech giants, and Boeing.
When you have a chance, go and explore this beautiful corner of the country.

Blogger Strayer in Oregon will attest to how wet that part of the country can be but Washington sounds nice. I don't know what the first plane I flew in was, but my second was a 747. It was a big beast.
ReplyDeleteThe Queen of the Sky, the upper deck on the A-380 is an awesome ride.
DeleteI love Washington State and the city of Seattle.
ReplyDeleteA great city and the countryside around there is stunning.
DeleteMy mother has several nieces and nephew who live in Washington State... Seattle, outside of Seattle, Spokane, Point Roberts and Tacoma. A beautiful state. Last time I was there, years ago, was for my cousin's wedding, a nice outdoor wedding in the woods.
ReplyDeleteA place we would be glad to go back to.
DeleteShirley and I were there in the summer of 2014 and we both loved Washington State - like an entire country in its own right. By the way, as I am a clever dick, I will tell you that the water between Canada and Washington State is called The Strait of Juan de Fuca.
ReplyDeleteI thought about looking that up, it is a strange name for a body of water between to English speaking areas.
DeleteI haven't been to Washington...yet. The closest I've been is Oregon when my daughter lived there. When we visited Multnomah Falls we looked across the Columbia River and saw Washington state.
ReplyDeleteSo close, I would have driven across the bridge. I have not seen the falls.
DeleteI have been many many times, and almost took a job in Seattle last century. My father lived for a few years after my passed passed away in Sumas, just a few hundred yards from the Canadian border.
ReplyDeleteIt's a great state to visit, at least along the coast; the interior is less forested!
The longest undefended border in the world.
DeleteIt's also home to Chihuly Garden and Glass and amazing display of Chihuly's glass art. I also enjoyed the aquarium and of course the Public Market you have pictured. Your driving trip sounds fantastic.
ReplyDeleteThe glass is amazing. I don't know how we missed the aquarium. I was busy much of the time we were in Seattle. I planned the trip, with about 150 miles of driving most days, a nice leisurely pace.
DeleteI've found that the PNW is beautiful and will seduce you if you visit late spring through fall. Have fond memories of a trip to Seattle with my parents. However, after grad school in Oregon, I know that I cannot live that far north during the winter. Re: the Columbia Gorge and Multnomah Falls: Washington is the sunny side of the gorge.

I am not really interested in living any farther north than I am.
DeleteI have a niece that lives outside Seattle. She loves it out there because of the wonderful hiking.
ReplyDeleteI have a good friend who lives in Seattle. We had the pleasure of a visit with her some years ago. Lunch in the Space Needle, a great tour north, across the Deception Pass bridge and somewhere a ferry back to Seattle. Later we went to Vancouver Island in Canada and toured the amazing Butchart Gardens. Yes, truly an amazing part of the country.
