1: Would you prefer to live without a car if you could?
2: Have you ever been with someone when they decided to stop driving?
3: When was the last time you drove a car with a manual transmission?
4: Have you ever owned a diesel?
5: Do you park inside or outside?
My Answers:
1: Would you prefer to live without a car if you could? One of the nice parts of living here, is I could.
2: Have you ever been with someone when they decided to stop driving? Many years ago, my grandfather gave up on trying to get the car in garage, and handed me the keys, and said, "if I can't see to get in the garage, I guess I shouldn't drive anymore." It was a touching moment.
3: When was the last time you drove a car with a manual transmission? Last spring in France, the rental car. It was the first time in about a decade.
4: Have you ever owned a diesel? In the early 1980s I owned a VW Rabbit Diesel, I loved it, but it was a mechanical disaster.
5: Do you park inside or outside? My car is outside (covered in snow in the photo above), the other car is in the garage.
Please share you answers in the comments.
1.Yes. I mainly use mine to visit family who live around an hour or more away. It is possible by public transport but it would take so long.
ReplyDelete2. No, I haven't. My late partner was getting close to making that decision.
3. About three years ago I drove a large manual 4WD and also a sedan a couple of years before that.
4. No, thankfully.
5. Inside. I have two car parking spaces in the building's car park, but only one car.
In the building we are in, the extra garage parking space would sell for a much as $50,000.
Delete1: Would you prefer to live without a car if you could? Have done so in the past and we’re doing it again. I like it this way.
ReplyDelete2: Have you ever been with someone when they decided to stop driving? No
3: When was the last time you drove a car with a manual transmission? Maybe 14 years.
4: Have you ever owned a diesel? No
I wish more shopping was within walking distance for us.
DeleteHey, we've got a Bulgarian grocery, a Korean barber, and a Mexican take-away; what more could you ask for?
DeleteWhole Foods on top of the Metro Parking garage!
DeleteWickedHamster: A coffee shop and you’d have it all.
Delete1. In the right location I could do without a car. But I do like to drive.
ReplyDelete2. I've been with my dad when I told him he was going to stop - and sold his car.
3. 1997. I miss it
4. I didn't. My parents did in the late 70s. An Oldsmobile Toranado
5. Inside.
The late 70's diesels were "challenging."
DeleteA diesel Toranado... that must have been a handful! I wonder what one of those would go for these days in the collector market.
Deletethe thing rumbled and shook just like an 18 wheeler.
Delete1: Would you prefer to live without a car if you could? I would, though I do like to drive. Even here in Camden I wish we lived closer to town.
ReplyDelete2: Have you ever been with someone when they decided to stop driving? As his eyesight was failing Carlos warned me that one day he might stop driving and one day he did, He hasn't driven in about five year sor so,
3: When was the last time you drove a car with a manual transmission? The late 90s I think; I always liked manual transmissions.
4: Have you ever owned a diesel? I have not.
5: Do you park inside or outside? Inside; the house in Miami had no garage and I hated that. When we bought the house here in Camden it had what is call a two-and-a-half car garage and not that only houses the one car!
I bought a garage space separately from the condo. Only one, the spaces sell for up to $50,000.
DeleteCrazy that! Of course we have a friend in NYC who paid well over that for his space so in that sense you got a bargain?
Delete1: Would you prefer to live without a car if you could? Yes. Our forebears seemed to manage it.
ReplyDelete2: Have you ever been with someone when they decided to stop driving? What? When they were actually driving? That could be very dangerous Thankfully, no!
3: When was the last time you drove a car with a manual transmission? Yesterday. Most cars in Great Britain have manual transmission though my son and daughter have automatic vehicles.
4: Have you ever owned a diesel? Nope.
5: Do you park inside or outside? Outside - as my wife does not want the car in the house. Besides, the doorway is not wide enough.
I knew someone who left a car at a traffic light, with the keys in it, and took a taxi home.
Delete"Besides, the doorway is not wide enough." Good point.
Delete1. No, I like the freedom and convenience of having a car.
ReplyDelete2. Yes, I was involved in my father's decision to stop driving in his advanced years. He was more amenable to it than I anticipated.
3. I drove only manuals from 1974 to 1992. Then I got an automatic and have not driven a manual since.
4. No diesels for me.
5. I sort of park inside AND outside. My car is in an unheated open-air parkade, so the roof prevents me from having to clear snow off, but I still have to plug in when it's colder than -25 so the engine won't freeze.
-25 - I would freeze
Delete1: Would you prefer to live without a car if you could? Yes, if it was possible I'd like that.
ReplyDelete2: Have you ever been with someone when they decided to stop driving? No, I've only known people who were told they had to stop driving.
3: When was the last time you drove a car with a manual transmission? I can't remember so it must be a long time ago.
4: Have you ever owned a diesel? No
5: Do you park inside or outside? Outside but under a cover.
It almost never snows there, but the sun is brutal 6 months out of the year or more.
Delete1. No, I like the convenience.
ReplyDelete2. I remember when we had to take the keys from my Dad as he had Alzheimer's and would get lost. It was sad.
3. Back in the 1970s, I had a VW Rabbit that was manual.
4. No
5. Inside my attached garage.
Oh, and my older brother just stopped driving recently as he is showing signs of dementia now. :(
DeleteIt is much easier if people decide when to stop driving, rather than being forced to stop.
Delete1: Would you prefer to live without a car if you could? I want options. While I would prefer to walk, bike or use public transportation, I find that I have less tolerance for walking or standing around waiting for the bus in rainstorms, heat, and poor air quality.
ReplyDelete2: Have you ever been with someone when they decided to stop driving? No. Mom stopped driving, but didn't tell anybody. After a few visits, my sister figured out that Mom wasn't buying groceries.
3: When was the last time you drove a car with a manual transmission? Yesterday. Since I got my driver's license in 1972, I have only had one car with an automatic transmission from 2012-2021.
4: Have you ever owned a diesel? No, but my parents did. Dad bought it when he retired in 1978 and after both parents died, my sister drove it until about 2018. Her mechanic was the son of the fellow who worked on the car while my father was alive. The shop had all the work orders back from 1978.
5: Do you park inside or outside? Outside. The structural integrity of the 1927 vintage garage is suspect.
