The Washington Monument, the Empire State Building, the Capital Records Building, you see the structure, and you know the city. Seattle has two, the Space Needle, but increasingly people see this sign, and they think of Seattle. And it is a really nice market. Yes it is packed with tourists, but it is also full of real vendors provisioning the kitchens of the city, and boxes of fresh fruit for the tourists (if the cherries are in season, buy them!) I have been there a few times. It is one of those places I would like to rent an apartment within walking distance of, and spend a month cooking my way through the market.
The only two markets I've cooked my way through are the Reading Terminal, here in Philly, and the Lexington Square Market in Baltimore. They have the best crab cake at the Faidley's seafood stand, run by Nancy Faidley Devine, I have ever had anywhere. I have been known to drive down just to get crabmeat and crabcakes and return home. Yes, they are that good.

DeleteWhat a great idea! That sounds like a great way to spend a month. I love this place too! Last time I was there was Mother's Day weekend and every vendor had flowers. There were flowers everywhere!

DeleteI love the city markets. In Ohio my favorites are the 25th Street Market in Cleveland (Czuchraj Meats...their bacon jerky is out of this world!) and Findlay Street Market in Cincinnati where I discovered ajvar, a Serbian roasted red pepper sauce (yum!). Like you, I would love to rent a place for a few weeks for some neighborhood immersion.
ReplyDeleteI have been to the West Side Market in Cleveland, shopped there for a family party one time. Findlay in Cincinnati is neat, I haven't been there in 15 years. We owned a house in Lexington KY for 20+ years.
