On the farm when I was growing up, we had a small raspberry patch, blackberries grew wild (as they do along the walk from the condo to the metro station), and at one point we had a couple acres of strawberries, down from five acres before I was born. Blueberries we didn't have on the farm, there was a pick-your-own commercial blueberry farm about 20 minutes away and we went several times.
We keep a covered bowl of soft fruits in the refrigerator most of the time. Blueberries, blackberries, and raspberries most of the time. We wash them, lightly sweeten them. A bowl of them is often my breakfast.
The Good Life is one of my favorite series! I have the whole set and watch it at least once a year. In fact, we just started watching it again a couple of nights ago. The character of Margo Leadbetter is priceless. Here's to the Good Life!
ReplyDeleteAm I more like Margo or Tom?
DeleteI love all my berries, especially blueberries. I planted three blueberry bushes four years ago...and they take about that time to yield fruit...so this could be the summer they finally bring bounty.
ReplyDeleteFruit fresh off the bush, I'd need a farmer to help.
DeleteI've always been a stickler for having garden fruit washed before I'll eat it. However, after sampling a raspberry from the garden when I was very little, that's the one fruit that didn't have to be washed.
ReplyDeleteI have eaten a lot of strawberries while picking them,
DeleteGosh, Margot in The Good Life. Blackberries for me, ta and thanks.
ReplyDeleteI have to admit, I identified with Tom's desire to chuck the work world - 28 more months
DeleteI love berry season; those berries at the top are making me hungry.
ReplyDeleteThey do look yummy
DeleteI love all berries except blueberries because, for the same reason I don't like cherry tomatoes, they pop in your mouth.
ReplyDeleteYes, I'm odd. I know.
you don't want to know where my dirty mind went with the phrase "they pop in your mouth". ;-b
DeleteMine, too! I immediately thought, “You don't like that, Bob?"
DeleteWhat a fun bunch!
DeleteThat sounds like a delicious way to start the day.
ReplyDeleteIt is,
DeleteSensible! you will live long on this sort of stuff.
ReplyDeleteAnd fewer nasty chips
Deletewell maybe not that far.
DeleteMmmmm, I love them all! Always a treat, whether fresh or in baking.
ReplyDeleteI look forward to local strawberries
DeleteLove berries of all kinds. I have to limit my consumption these days, but would otherwise be a daily staple here as well.
