Traveling is like riding a bike, you never really forget how, though you do need a little practice to sharpen your skills. Someday travel will become safe again, adventure will become normal and acceptable. When that happens, where to? Hence this weeks Sunday five
Name five places you want to travel to and and why.
- Great Britain, we have dear friends (and bloggers) in Wales and London, and I still need to go find the house my grandmother was born in, I have not been to Scotland, I could spend a month.
- France, it has been too long, there are a few bloggers to meet. I could spend the rest of my life exploring small French villages and wandering in the museums. Oh and the food!
- Philadelphia, there are a couple of bloggers to see, a couple of great museums to revisit, and Hamster has some old college friends to see.
- Arizona, there is something about the landscape that makes my heart go pitter-pat. There are a couple of dear bloggers to see. I want to go back to the Grand Canyon and spend time exploring the high desert and mountains.
- New York City, we have a dear old friend who has moved there (west side of Central Park, near the middle of the park.) The new platforms at Penn Station are opening this week. Shopping, food, museums there is just so much. I need to go to Brooklyn, I have a couple of addresses connected to my grandmother's time there, and the bar her Uncle Bob ran (just over the bridge, on the left.)
Please share your top five in the comments.
I'd like to go back to London, England and spend more time there. In the USA, I'd love to go to Philadelphia, New York and Boston. Here in Canada, I'm overdue to visit Victoria BC again (such a charming city) and I'd like to visit Newfoundland, the only Canadian province where I have never been.
ReplyDeleteAnd I wonder if you could have your arm twisted for a drink or two at the Toasted Walnut?!?!?
DeleteIf you get as close as Philly, I am only 90 minutes away by train.
DeleteWell...once safe and word gets out for safe travel....the 1- Portofino and 2- Lake Como will be on schedule again. 2- Rehoboth Beach 3- Nairobi 4- I'm over due for a San Fran trip to visit friends and 5-I would so love to go back to Buenos Aries, Argentina again. One of the most spectacular trips I had.
ReplyDeleteNorthern Italy is on our retirement travel list.
Delete1 Surely you wouldn't want to meet that John Gray person again? I'd like to visit Montreux where Freddie Mercury once lived.
ReplyDelete2 Prague. What a lovely city and cheaper than most of Europe.
3 See more of Portugal. We loved it there.
4 Cornwall. The reasons are pretty obvious.
5 Darwin in Northern Australia just before the monsoons arrive where the pressure builds and people go mad from the humidity and heat, and then the rains break and it cools. As I dislike humidity, I would not leave my hotel with beautiful sky views.
I have never been to Portugal,
DeleteLondon, English Midlands, Norway (north and south), New York City, Madrid... for starters. Too many reasons to list and, besides, I'm more interested in your grandmother's history in Brooklyn and Uncle Bob's bar!
ReplyDeleteMy great grandfather was a tunnel digger (his marriage license listed his profession as "excavator." He moved to New York in about 1910 to work on deep tunnels. My grandmother lived in Brooklyn as a young child (she was 4 the first time she lived there.) Uncle Bob's bar is no longer there, but I have the location. He was a London pub keeper, who escaped London either just before or after World War I for the relative safety of New York. He died in Miami in the mid-50's.
DeleteYou have so much fascinating family history. Jerry did a whole lot of digging for me. The most fascinating thing he found for one of MY dead relatives is someone whose occupation in Russia was listed as "Beggar"! No wonder my mother's social-climbing family claimed to know nothing. If you know the address of Uncle Bob's bar, you might find a photo of it here: http://nycma.lunaimaging.com/luna/servlet
DeleteI found one address, I need to go back through the archive again. I have my grandmother's address book from 1926 to about 1937 - very interesting.
Deleteaustria (my maternal grandmother's ancestral country)
ReplyDeletewales & uk (friends to see, like john gray and raybeard)
germany (cause I've never been there)
canada (train ride from montreal to vancouver)
san diego, albany, richmond, charleston (to visit blogger friends)
QE II across the Atlantic,
DeleteEngland. My mother and father were married there, and lived there for a short time after, so I'd like to see where they lived.
ReplyDeleteNew York City. It's been too long.
Asheville. One of our favorite local spots, with a great food scene and gorgeous scenery.
San Francisco. Having grown up close by, and then living there while in college, and being the Gay Mecca, it always holds a special place in my heart.
Tie: Key West//Maui; I lived in Maui for a short time and loved the peacefulness of it all. The world's away from it all vibes. And Key West has that same quality.
Key West, I need to spend a week there
DeleteOh boy, this is a fun one!
ReplyDeleteLondon and UK. London is my favorite city but I'd also like to visit Cambridge and the Cotswolds and a many other places.
Bruges Belgium, I was there in 1991 and have always wanted to go back.
Perth Australia. I have three blogging friends from there and the photos of the city are beautiful.
Namibia. I'm a desert dweller at heart and the desert there is simply stunning. It's a country I'd love to explore.
New York & Washington DC. There is always something to do and love in NY and I'd love to see DC again after you know who is gone.
He who must not be named, will be moving soon.
Delete1. first stop: Palm Springs
ReplyDelete2. A restaurant
3. Iceland
4. Virginia to see a handful of dear bloggers, many well over four feet
5. Japan would be nice too
How fun!
