Summer Daze

We are definitely in the haze of summer.  Work email volume is down, response time is up, people are distracted.  The greens are dark, almost too dark to register as green.  A friend of mine co-owns an island off the coast of Maine. Five friends went together and bought it, the agreement is only the five of them and their immediate households are allowed on the island.  Electricity is provided by generators, there are several cabins on the island.  No phone service, no cell service.  Karen's out of office email response last week was "gone to the island, I will respond when I return to civilization in a week or so."

We don't have a summer retreat planned this year.  If we did, where would we go?

Where is your summer retreat?

  3. We don't have a consistent summer retreat, since we live where everyone retreats TO. However, last year we talked about escaping the summer crowds for at least part of every August. We will not start that tradition THIS summer.

  4. My summer retreat now sits in a trailer storage facility waiting in vain for us to clean her up and take her camping. Not happening this year.

  5. Nowhere, but in the backyard oasis this year, but I usually try to take my 92 year old mother on a road trip to Maine (that's the homeland). Didn't Dorothy once say, "There's no place like home?

  7. Nowhere this year. We used to go to Ogunquit, Maine, every summer for a couple of weeks. We'd stay in the same inn as a base and take drives out and about each day. It was heavenly. Our last time there was in June of 2010. We drove out from Indiana, stayed a week or two and then meandered our way home, stopping in Hyde Park, Poughkeepsie, on into Ohio and my mother's old home farm. It was a fantastic trip. Probably our last.

    1. I keep reminding my world, we reach a point of not traveling, then it will be the memories and shorter adventures

  8. Every summer I spend 3 or 4 days in Newport Beach California. But, not this year. What would be the point in going if you can't eat out and many beaches are closed. I was also planning a trip to London in September and that is also not going to happen either. Ho hum...the only good thing about this is that I'm saving money.
