I remember ignoring this advice at the Grand Canyon, and regretting it. I was in my mid 20's, the weather was mild, the walk was wonderful, until I started to think I might not survive it. A few years later, on a warm Florida day, I learned the hard way why serious bikes have bottle holders when I headed out for 20 miles ride, in an isolated area, without water. I never made that mistake again.
There is usually a glass of water within my reach. For years it was diet coke, or coke-zero. I cut back on those, and then this year between traveling the first couple of weeks in March and being home, well I have had one coke zero since March 16th. Just one. I have broken that addiction. Water is likely healthier. It is lower in cost. At home it is in a glass, so there are no single use plastic bottles to clutter up the earth for a decade or more. Better for me, better for the earth.
I start off the morning with a very large iced coffee, the stronger the better. You shouldn't be able to see through coffee. From there on it is water for the rest of the day.
What drink is within arms reach for you?
Depends on the time of the day, but always water and I take it to bed with me too.
ReplyDeleteI am not very good at drinking in bed
Deletegrand canyon can be scary for lone person sometimes
ReplyDeleteamazing experience
thank you for sharing my friend!
Sometimes we have to be reminded to stay safe
DeleteRight now it's my mug of tea with milk. The rest of the day, it's water. Usually at least 3 liters a day. Maybe a glass of wine or beer at night, but not very often, and always with water on the side (or really the alcohol on the side). Ah, ignorant youth. I remember those hikes I took never considering the need for water. We're lucky to be alive!
ReplyDeleteWe weren't raised in the generation with a water bottle permanently attached to our bodies
DeleteI have cut soda to a minimum. I still like a Coke from time to time but I'm tea all the way.
ReplyDeleteRight now the closest thing is orange juice. It's early in the morning!
XOXO
The one coke-zero that I had tasted strangely sweet, and the bubbles made me feel bloated.
Deletediet pepsi; currently have my hot cawfee cause mah fat ass just got up!
ReplyDeleteRise and Shine!
DeleteCafe con leche is waiting for me in the kitchen as I type.
ReplyDeleteGotta go ...........................
Sounds yummy
DeleteCider with my morning meds, coffee with breakfast, ice water the rest of the day. I keep adding ice as soon as it has melted. Can't stand tepid water. I love our tap water, so that is what I drink. Most bottled water has an aftertaste. I have several 18oz, stainless steel bottles with tight caps, so I carry one of those upstairs, into the living room, etc. I have several half sizes of the same bottle, and if I have to be gone when it is time to take my afternoon meds, I fill one with ice and water and take it along. If eating out, I'll have a regular Pepsi or Coke with lots of ice. Any diet drink has an aftertaste, too, so I have never liked diet anything.
ReplyDeleteLots of water, Cider is an interesting choice.
DeleteA cup of coffee every morning...gotta have it. Then water with lemon the rest of the day. My urologist says that lemon in water is good for preventing kidney stones, and I've had three of them in my lifetime, so I will do anything to prevent those. I haven't had a soda in years!
ReplyDeleteSounds healthy - my father had kidney stones - one the reasons he let his pilot's license expire.
DeleteI have 2-3-maybe 4 cups of coffee in the a.m., then I start on ice water for the rest of the day and ... if it is hot outside, I may have an ice cold Bud Lite with my lunch OR supper ... but only one and if I actually have any beer in the fridge! LOL It's an occasional treat for me anymore and especially if I have pizza!
ReplyDeleteAll good things in moderation, except coffee and water, those are essential
DeleteI have a pot of half-caff that I drink all day. I have to make a concerted effort to drink water. I have five 20oz glass bottles in my fridge. I have to have my water very cold so glass is the way to go! I also drink carbonated flavored water like Le Croix. Sometimes a person just needs the bubbles, you know? All soda tastes like overly sweet syrup to me now.
ReplyDeleteFull calf, if not for caffeine, I’d have no personality
DeleteI doubt that very seriously! I've been drinking coffee since I was 12 and all full caffeine has done for me is give me the jitters and an irritated urinary tract. I used to keep UTIs until I switched over a few years back. Sure, there were other causes, but caffeine was a major offender.
DeleteI can't imagine you without a personality, with or without caffeine.
our duchess is bubbly all by her sweet self!
DeleteI traded in my Diet Coke addiction for water a few years ago due to acid reflux issues. Water is so much better for us! I like to have a few ice cubes in mine. I just drink tap water.
ReplyDeleteI feel better having kicked the habit
DeleteI'm curious where you took this photo because that is the City of Phoenix symbol on the top of the sign.
ReplyDeleteI have a glass of water here with me right now. Later today it will be iced tea.
