I was raised a typical midwesterner. I didn't sample the delights of pulled pork until my 30's. It is easy to make, take a pork shoulder or pork butt, season it, slow braise, until the meat is falling apart, break or chop it up, sauce it and away you go. Seasoning can be simple, salt and pepper, or complex with savory, sweet and heat, do what you like, there is no wrong spicing. The real secret is cooking it low and slow for hours. For me is an all day slow cook in the oven at a low temperature. Good cold weather cooking.
Do you pull your pork?
Pull your pork, choke the chicken... it all the same...You Say Potato, and I Say Potahto.
ReplyDeleteI was hoping your mind would go there.
DeleteI've never found the attraction. I like well cooked roast pork, not cooked until it falls apart.
ReplyDeleteThere is this place in North Carolina that first tempted me, a religious experience in pork.
DeleteNot my own! There are people who will do that FOR you. (OK, well, usually not my own.) Anyway, we have (I hope we still do after the lockdown ends) a casual restaurant called Taxi Angus that has exceptional pulled pork. I don't think I had pulled pork, either, until I was in my 30s. But SG, from South Dakota, grew up with it.
ReplyDeleteWe ordered room service last night and I tipped 30%. The Condo has a restaurant in the community center (we have over 1,000 apartments - and some neat amenities.) The restaurant is offering delivery only right now (hence room service.) I really want them to be there, when we can go back.
Deletewe use our crock pot to slow cook a boneless pork loin; dee-lish!
ReplyDeletethere used to be a restaurant on route 1 near you called the dixie pig (it's now closed); that's where I had my first pulled pork. https://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/the-state-of-nova/post/dixie-pig-bbq-owner-addie-arthur-has-died/2012/03/27/gIQAlIwHeS_blog.html
as for that towel above, you better ask sweet bear for help. ;-b
There are a couple of local BBq places nearby that are good. I don't own a crock pot, I can do the same thing in the oven or on the stove top with lots of patience.
DeleteOne never forgets one's first pulled pork, or so BH tells me.
ReplyDeleteTry it, you’ll like it
DeleteOh, I've eaten pulled pork. I crock pot it with liquid smoke, and then add bbq sauce once cooked. I like it with cornbread. To each their own.
DeleteI remember the first time I tried pulled pork about ten years ago, I thought, "whoa baby, where have you been all my life"!!!
ReplyDeleteYes,
DeleteOh, that towel, LOL!
ReplyDeleteI should have bought it.
DeleteWe had this for dinner last Thursday. Crockpot type. It was good.
