Walk This Way
I see them all of the time, people walking along the sidewalk, or the subway platform, gently swaying from side to side, staggering slightly like a person who has had a little too much to drink. They are totally clueless to their surroundings, they are engrossed in their phone. It can be text messages, or talking on the phone, the impact is about the same. They speed up and slow down, they weave from side to side, they are incapable of walking in a straight line.
Sadly they miss the world around them. A few times in the middle of a major world Capital I have been tempted to shout, LOOK UP, YOU ARE MISSING THE WORLD. But that would be rude, I try not to me rude.
Do you walk and text?
HELL NO since I don't have a phone!
ReplyDeleteI stop to text so I don't walk into anything or anyone. I've become a bit belligerent with walking texters and sometimes let them walk right into me rather than monitor THEIR progress. Sometimes I actually get a "sorry," but most of the time they just keep on texting,.
ReplyDeleteI had a phone with big numbers I could see. My balder half, gadget crazy man that he is, decided I needed an iphone instead. I never have it turned on, and keep it only for emergencies, which I hope never happens because I keep forgetting how to turn the sucker on! Texting? Forget about it! I tried it once, almost gave my son a heart attack! It is quicker for me to call someone than to get these fat, arthritic claws to work that tiny keyboard. Yes, as son number one says, I miss typewriters and rotary phones. I liked the sounds they made. Oh crap, it looks like I wrote another essay. Sorry!
ReplyDeleteDeedles, I love your comments. ANne Marie told me that you didn’t blog, just had a profile and commented. I just want to say that I’d read your blog should you decide to start one.
DeleteWe love the long answers. I worked on the phone for a decade, a little over 12,000 calls. I prefer email or text to talking on the phone. I don't text and walk - to many things to do at one.
DeleteAw, thanks! Fearsome, (can I call you that?), I have the attention span of a hummingbird on crack and the work ethic of a stoned sloth, so no blogging for me! I'll just continue to be a ninja commenter until told to cease and desist.
DeleteTo be honest I’ve caught myself trying to....I then put my phone away or stop and get the text out before proceeding. It’s dangerous and I don’t like missing the world around me.
ReplyDelete2018 is the year to rebel - starting with the cellphones.
