Monday Moods: Fitting All of the Pieces Together

I wrote this a week ago, in a hotel at CDG Airport in Paris, our flight home was the next morning. There is always a sense of relief for me, when we reach this point, and everything worked, everything fit together. This trip involved five airline flights on three different airlines, one cruise, six hotels, one advance purchase train, two purchase just before boarding trains, two mass transit systems, and advance tickets for multiple museums and sites. Everything was on the right day, nothing was missing.  We planned it all, I booked all of the travel and hotels. Sweet Bear booked the attractions and passes for the Vienna transit system. It tests our organizational ability, and it is always a relief when it all works.

Maybe it proves that we can still do it, despite being older than dirt. It is nice to have it work.

It was a lot of travel. We saw things and had experiences we have long wanted to do. Several bucket list items were checked off the list. I have something in the neighborhood of 5,000 photographs, that will feed the blog for a long time.  Don't worry, I won't post all of them. The images and experiences will inspire relevant essays and rants over the coming year or so.

At the moment, I am glad, relieved that everything within our control, we did right.  Have I ever messed up? Oh you bet, hotel reservations on the wrong day, train tickets on the wrong day, failed to book advance admission to impossible to get into attractions, booked an airport hotel that was three miles away from the airport with limited taxi service, yup, I have done all of that. And when it happens, I smile, say Poo happens, make other arrangements and go. Never let fear that something might go wrong, stand in the way of going and doing. Most of what we fear, either already has happened, or never will happen.

My mood this Monday, is content that it all worked. Wondering what the next adventure will be.

  1. I think being older makes your booking of things better, with experience and knowing to triple check, then have someone else check. You are also more aware of the 'tricks' booking sites might steer you to.

  2. I wondered how many photos you’d end up with! As for being “older than dirt.” You are no where near older than dirt at this point in your life.

    1. I had no idea that decomposition started while we are still alive.

    2. Decomposition begins at birth, even before birth depending on how you look at it. Plato would say were are always in a state of becoming, never of being. Pretty as that might sound to the modern ear, it means as soon as we start living, we start dying. But what do I know. since I'm not in a state of being I'm not really here...

  4. It's funny how just days after one great adventure, we start to think about the next great adventure. That is the sign of true adventuresome spirits.
That is a lot of planning you did. Great job!

  5. Welcome home! Planning for a month of travel is a lot of work but all that effort takes away stress. One adventure leads to the next! Looking forward to seeing your photos and reading your stories.

  6. I'm usually pretty good at planning trips, but when I planned a journey to New Zealand years ago, I accidentally scheduled my rental car pickup for the day before I arrived. When I got there the next day, the car was still there, waiting. "We wondered where you were!" said the attendant.
