The Sunday Five:

1: When you travel, where do you prefer to stay?

2: Do you have a "go-to" hotel brand or group?

3: What is the nicest hotel you have ever stayed?

4: Have you ever traveled in a recreational vehicle?

5: Would you spend the night in one of these tents?

My answers:

1: When you travel, where do you prefer to stay?  Hotels, even when I visit family I almost always stay in a nearby hotel.

2: Do you have a "go-to" hotel brand or group? Hilton and their other brands. A second choice is Holiday Inn.

3: What is the nicest hotel you have ever stayed? The Langham Hotel in Chicago, the conference arranged and paid the bill.

4: Have you ever traveled in a recreational vehicle?  Only once, my parents owned a motor home for a few years - I went to Key West with them on long weekend.

5: Would you spend the night in one of these tents? No, I don't sleep outside on the ground.

Please share your answers in the comments.

  1. 1: When you travel, where do you prefer to stay? In quiet rental cottages or apartments with kitchens.
2: Do you have a "go-to" hotel brand or group? Here in Great Britain, the "Premier Inn" chain is normally reliable - clean and with good quality bedding. Not too pricey either.
3: What is the nicest hotel you have ever stayed? Possibly The Luxe Manor in Hong Kong.
4: Have you ever traveled in a recreational vehicle? I don't know what one of them is. Oh, Google says "a motor vehicle or trailer equipped with living spaces, designed for leisure travel, camping, and temporary habitation." The answer is "No!" They have no appeal for me.
5: Would you spend the night in one of these tents? Well I would if pushed but who would be in the other tents?

2: Do you have a "go-to" hotel brand or group? No
3: What is the nicest hotel you have ever stayed? I’ve stayed in some great places but the first that comes to mind is a former private palace in Seville. It was newly renovated and opened as a hotel and was an incredible experience.
4: Have you ever traveled in a recreational vehicle? No.
5: Would you spend the night in one of these tents? It depends on what services are available. Flush toilets and warm showers? If not, forget it.

    1. I have read your "camping" stories, it looks like fun until it rains.

  3. 1. Hotels. In P-Town, you're a little more forced to do something like an Airbnb.
    2. Hilton or Marriott seem to work best. In that order.
    3. Probably the St. Ermine in London. Stayed at the Waldorf Astoria once - it was not worth the hype that the name brings.
    4. No. But we've discussed.
    5. Possibly. I do require running water - not IN the tent but close by.

    1. More likely the water will run through the tent when it rains.

    2. No. I am quite disloyal.
    3. I don't know the name, but a hotel in Dubai.
    4. Yes, in a campervan once. I liked it. My late partner hated it.
    5. Staying in a tent? Really? I don't think so.

  5. 1: When you travel, where do you prefer to stay? When we visited my Dad we stayed with him, otherwise we stay in a hotel.
2: Do you have a "go-to" hotel brand or group? Not really; a little research helps me make up my mind.
3: What is the nicest hotel you have ever stayed? We stayed at The Nines in Portland once; a refurbished former design center with a great rooftop bar.
4: Have you ever traveled in a recreational vehicle? My parents once owned a motor home and we traveled all throughout the Wester US when I was a kid.
5: Would you spend the night in one of these tents? Not even if forced.

  7. 1. When I travel, I always stay in hotels or, in a pinch, B&Bs (never AirB&Bs). Like you, I stay in hotels even when visiting family or friends. I need my space and privacy to relax.
    2. My "go-to" hotel brand is something middle-of-the-road and dependable/reliable as to quality, like Holiday Inn or Best Western.
    3. Any time I've stayed in a swanky hotel, it's been related to association with the legal profession. In Canada, have stayed at fab hotels in Niagara Falls (right overlooking the Horseshoe Falls) and in Alberta at the Chateau Lake Louise. Abroad, we stayed in some really upscale hotels in Japan, but I think the swankiest I've ever been in was in Seoul, South Korea. (We were traveling on a Bar Association tour).
    4. I've never traveled in a motor home.
    5. You could not pay me enough to sleep in one of those tents.

  10. 1: When you travel, where do you prefer to stay? A hotel.
2: Do you have a "go-to" hotel brand or group? Any hotel in the IHG group is fine with me, I especially like Kimpton hotels.
3: What is the nicest hotel you have ever stayed? I'll have to say the Waldorf Astoria in New York.
4: Have you ever traveled in a recreational vehicle? Many times. My parents had motorhomes and campers at different times and I traveled in all of them. I really enjoyed those trips.
5: Would you spend the night in one of these tents? Not any longer. I did some tent traveling but that was about 50 years ago.

4: Have you ever traveled in a recreational vehicle? No, unless you count the Toyota pickup with the futon in the back.
5: Would you spend the night in one of these tents? Maybe. A lot would depend upon how desperate I am and the weather.

Do you have a "go-to" hotel brand or group? Certain locations...yes!

What is the nicest hotel you have ever stayed? Probably one in Vienna or Amsterdam. Though to tell the truth, my room on the Orient Express was the one of the best even surpassing many actual hotel rooms I stayed!

Have you ever traveled in a recreational vehicle? No. Though I glamp in a camper!

Would you spend the night in one of these tents. Have when I was young...Never again.

  13. I appreciate a luxury type hotel especially if there is nice services. I cannot recall the nicest hotel I've stayed in. I remember as a boy staying at the four seasons in Toronto in the 70s? I thought it amazing. I wonder if it is still there. If so I must be quite dated.

2: No Loyalties to any Brand or Group.
3: Lots of Nicest, but the most Interesting to me are Historic Buildings.
4: No Traveled, but we own one that sits on our Property and is occupied by Family or Guests
5: Probably not, but I'd stay in a Yurt, just to say I have. I'm not opposed to Glamping, but regular Camping, isn't my Jam.
