The Sunday Five: Seeing ourselves

1: Do you see yourself as your age, younger, older?

2: How do you feel about fashion?
3: How much time do you spend on your appearance most days?
4: What would you tell your younger self about appearances?
5: How do you really feel about tattoos?

My Answers:
1: Do you see yourself as your age, younger, older? I have a hard to understanding that I am getting older, in my mind I am 30, in my knees I am 95.

2: How do you feel about fashion? The older I get, the less I care.
3: How much time do you spend on your appearance most days? I don't always bother to run a brush through what is left of my hair.
4: What would you tell your younger self about appearances? Those that judge you based on your appearance, don't really like you anyway.
5: How do you really feel about tattoos? I understand the desire to do something taboo, something forbidden, but I have never wanted anything that permanent. Tattoos on the face, or neck, I find unattractive.

Please share your answers in the comments.

  1. 1: Do you see yourself as your age, younger, older? I can't imagine seeing myself at my current age. I always imagine myself about 30 years younger.
2: How do you feel about fashion? I prefer the classics rather than what is au courant. My work uniform was a white button down shirt, nice slacks, a sweater vest and occasionally a coat and tie. You can go just about anywhere whether it was to a Board meeting, a client meeting, or a professional group meeting after work. Living in a smallish city you also learn to dress a bit better on weekends when doing random personal errands around town (at least a nice polo shirt and twill trousers) just in case you ran into clients in the grocery store or at the Post Office.
3: How much time do you spend on your appearance most days? About 20 minutes max (shower, shave, floss and brush my teeth, run a comb through my hair.
4: What would you tell your younger self about appearances? Dad's advice still applies "Have some consideration for those who have to look at you." Neat, clean, and fresh smelling are a good place to start.
5: How do you really feel about tattoos? Not for me - as I chided a younger co-worker "How is that going to look years from now when you are in the Nursing Home?"

  2. Do you see yourself as your age, younger, older? Still younger! You know, to match the outside still of course!

How do you feel about fashion? Passionate! We know how I feel about Crocs, Uggs, mismatched patterns and sweats worn in public!!!!!! OFF WITH THEIR HEADS! I always said I'd make a good Queen of Hearts.

How much time do you spend on your appearance most days? 45 minutes.
What would you tell your younger self about appearances? Grow and have fun with fashion and have your own style, be the trend darling...don't follow them.

How do you really feel about tattoos? To each their own, and have seen many I like, but one will never grace this skin darling. You know, when you get old and wrinkled who will decipher what it is or says?

  3. 1: Do you see yourself as your age, younger, older?
Mostly younger. Definitely younger than my parents were at my age.
2: How do you feel about fashion?
I have better things to spend my money on these days.
3: How much time do you spend on your appearance most days?
Just enough to ensure me and my clothes are clean and tidy.
4: What would you tell your younger self about appearances?
Make the most of your natural self.
5: How do you really feel about tattoos?
I love them. Wish I had more but not on the face or neck and no skulls. I absolutely do not care how they would look when I'm ninety!

    2. Fashion is fickle. I just like to dress nicely.
    3. If I shave, about every third day, it is nearly 30 minutes, if not, around 20 minutes.
    4. Be sure to not wear anything unflattering.
    5. I have two tattoos, years old now. I've no regrets but I don't like the way people now have so many or such large ones.

  5. 1: Do you see yourself as your age, younger, older? I see myself as me.
2: How do you feel about fashion? I think it is all about making money and it carelessly wastes some of Earth's precious resources without good reasons for doing that. It is also terribly boring.
3: How much time do you spend on your appearance most days? Twenty seconds combing my hair after a shower.
4: What would you tell your younger self about appearances? Stick to your guns young man! Remain independent and never become a sheep following the flock. Wear what makes you feel comfortable and never have a short haircut.
5: How do you really feel about tattoos? I really hate them and have never considered having one myself but I think that Trump should have a one word tattoo inked on his forehead - "PRICK".

  7. 1. Tricky question. There are days my body feels 92, but my mind is still 22. And I'm neither of those things. I think I feel my age most of the time.
    2. I don't. There might be trends, but I don't abide by them. At this point it is for comfort. If style fits in, fine. I mean - I don't look shabby all the time.
    3. 15 minutes? Most of it is shaving the noggin and some lotion.
    4. Stop worrying. Honestly nobody really cares.
    5. I like them - to a degree. I don't have one. I've wanted one, but cannot commit.

  8. 1: Do you see yourself as your age, younger, older? Never my age; I have always been t though I think it's because I don't act my "age."

2: How do you feel about fashion? I find haute couture an art form and I love the creativity. As for me, I like certain things, I have a style, and I kind of stick to it.

3: How much time do you spend on your appearance most days? A half hour, I'm guessing. Lazy days it drops down to thirty seconds or so.

4: What would you tell your younger self about appearances? If you like it, who cares what others think.

5: How do you really feel about tattoos? I have six and I love them; I could always get another but I haven't been inspired to do so.
