Falling apart on the subway tracks in the King Street Station. |
I loved Alexandria. Haven’t been there since Reagan was president.
ReplyDeleteWe think Alexandria has gotten better.
DeleteClearly. Your photos show how much has changed.
DeleteThe large chain merchants like Gap have moved out, more small local shops are open today than when we arrived. The City is very conscious of what kinds of business should go where. PNC Bank closed their King Street branch, and the city declined another financial services office going in the location, saying it needed to be a business that had a higher number of customers walking in and out each day.
DeleteI think that's an interesting view of Virginia Tech.
ReplyDeleteI know nothing about INEOS. Do I need to know?
The brown toadies are nice.
The origin story of Ineos is interesting, a group of older men sitting around talking come up with an idea for the car that someone should build, and one of them has a few billion pounds so he goes out an builds them.
DeleteMy half sister has lived in Alexandria for years, since the late 80's. She and my brother-in-law recently moved since it's an empty nest now. She a physical therapist and he a surgeon...both in Crystal City.
ReplyDeleteAnd don't forget...the next big protest against the dump is Oct 18!
DeleteI spent a couple of hours in Crystal City the other day, it has really developed into a CITY. Come visit her someday, and stop by for gin.
DeleteGreat photos.
ReplyDeleteI kind of like the odd angles of the VTech building,
I have never heard of INEOS but isn't it just Hummer 2.0???
Lastly that is one beautiful little street scene with the brick walks; I could sit down there and people watch dor a good long time.
The Ineos is based on the old series 1 Land Rover. The brick walk is on King Street in Old Town Alexandria, we live about a mile from there as the Eagle flies.
DeleteLovely tour around town but the comment that caught my eye was the one about the INEOS. I was just at the Grenadier Pub in London a few weeks ago. I posted about it here:https://phxdp.blogspot.com/2025/08/grand-homes-and-fine-dining.html
ReplyDeleteThat is the pub that it took me 20 years to find. Someone told me about it 20 years ago and every time I went to London I went looking for it and couldn't find it until 2016 when I finally found it down a narrow drive that looked like a private driveway.
Apparently a gathering place for bright and creative minds.
DeleteLooks like a great day for a walk! No Kings protest - October 18th! I've already signed up.
ReplyDeleteStay safe and be heard.
DeleteGood 'un.
ReplyDeleteThanks,
