The Saturday Morning Post: 50 States in 52 weeks New York

New York City is what most people think of when they think of New York. I was 50 years old before I first visited New York City, and honestly I didn't really understand why people 💗 New York City, until I had been there.  It is an amazing city. When you have a chance, go see it, for the first time, or the 1,000th time.

There is more to New York than the City.  I have spent time in upstate, the finger lakes district and Niagara. Places that will take your breath away. I need to visit Albany and the surrounding area someday, to see Sassy Bear, and a really great lawyer who was on my board.

When you get a chance see New York, beyond New York City, go an enjoy. Seeing New York City and saying you have been to New York, is like visiting London and saying you have seen England.  You may have seen a great part of it, but there is so-so much more to see.

  1. It's interesting. I don't know what I expected of New York. Maybe it was the terribly hot and humid weather that put me off. There some things I really liked but there was swindle that happened to us when catching a subway, although we didn't lose money, that being I guess the train operator. The cloying service where we ate with half a dozen checks to see if we were happy with the food, and almost exposed tits under our noses. One man with a vacant seat next to him on the subway to Brooklyn has some serious manspreading happening. I sat, he did not move his legs, I gently pushed back and made my space. Some poor subway platform directions. We did enjoy, The Highline, seeing Matilda on Broadway, The Chrysler and Empire State Buildings, is it MOMA, and also a smaller museum (NYC Museum?), the train museum in Brooklyn, the cruise on the Hudson. I want to say more, but I can make a blog post from this.

    2. It can be crowded and humid, and hot or cold.

  2. The state is so varied, the cultures, the attitudes, the politics, the accents. Some places I’d avoid like the plague and others that are a wonder.

  4. We've seen very little beyond the city but every time we go I fond so much to do in the city that I don't want to venture out. Maybe a trip to Upstate and THE go into the city.

  6. I've only been in New York City once, for one afternoon. I chose to spend it at the Brooklyn Museum, communing with Judy Chicago's iconic art installation "The Dinner Party."

  8. I love NYC and discover something new every time I visit. New York state is beautiful, too. My parents took us to the Corning Glass Factory many years ago and I still have the little glass cockatoo that I bought with my own money.

  9. New York City is fun...and I've been there and done that since the mid 90's. Niagara is also nice...but give me the Adirondack Mountains! There you will see some beauty in nature!!!!!!!

  10. One of my greatest memories was traveling by boat up the Hudson River and through the Erie Canal. I saw a lot of New York that way.

    1. That would be a wonderful trip. I watched YouTube of a couple that did the "Great Loop" route (they have done it twice and just finished posting about two weeks on a narrow boat in Scotland.)
