It was a good week, and I continue to do well. Life is as much about how we respond to what happens, as it is about what happens. Every day when I wake up, still alive, still able to swing my feet over the side of the bed and rise to my feet is a good day.
We saw this nice sensible rechargeable hybrid car in the parking garage at our local Aldi. As a hybrid you don't have range anxiety, and as a rechargeable it uses less gasoline. As we were admiring it, the owner came out, he owns a coffee shop that was due to open last weekend. He was proud of his sensible car. He said his wife is not so sure, there is only room for one very-small suitcase. The doors are hinged like a Lamborghini Countach to swing up making it easier to deal with tight parking spaces. Sensible cars, need not be boring cars.
The longer I am retired, the more I come to be comfortable with being retired. I am losing interest in the issues that filled my days for over 25 years. I am settling into a relaxed pace, filling my days with good days. Good days, make good weeks.
I can understand the man’s wife not being convinced but that has nothing to do with the car being a hybrid. There are plenty of hybrids that cat fit more suitcases and from which you aren’t getting up from the ground. What kind of car is it? It IS sexy.

DeleteIt takes a good long while to wash away the mental detritus of a working life. In my case, after almost sixteen years, some of that waste material remains on my beach.
ReplyDeleteLike rocks embedded in the sand.
DeleteI'm in my 8th year of retirement now and still thrilled about it!
ReplyDeleteLike many things in life, this seems to get better with time.
DeleteIf that car is sensible ...
ReplyDeleteI think the key to your enjoying retirement is activity. We have some friends who've retired and they basically stay home and poutter in their garden. I have another friend who retired and he works three days a week feeding the homeless and the at-risk communities.
I tend my blogs, walk, swim or float, help with arts group, write for an ABA journal, I kind of stay busy.
DeleteMy son and his wife have 2 hybrids but they are roomier and more practical than that.
ReplyDeleteI'm getting used to retirement but lately I'm looking to help others more so I might volunteer at a food pantry...
I do some committee work for my former employer, and have become entangled in the community arts group.
DeleteThat's a nice looking sensible car. Sounds like retirement is suiting you well.
